Product Description

Amazon.co.uk

These LA-based girl rockers first formed in the mid-1980s, but their irreverent boogie punk-metal didn't really take off until they signed to Slash Records in 1991. They looked the look, walked the walk and churned out rebel songs of love, lust, paranoia and PMT. Featuring 12 songs from the three albums they recorded for Slash between 1992 and 1997, L7 urge you in the sleevenotes to play this compilation loud. "Hope your ears bleed," they add cheerfully. Included here is their stage-diving hit anthem "Pretend We're Dead", the cartoon sarcasm of "Bad Things" ("I had some things to do today / my head just got in the way") and "Freak Magnet", a heaving, brooding swamp monster. As they advise, play loud for maximum effect. --Lucy O'Brien

5.0 out of 5 stars hope your ears bleed... 13 Jan 2001
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This is a "have to buy it" cd...L7 have so many good musics - i like all of them - that it must have been very hard to select which ones to include or not... It has musics from "Bricks are heavy", "Hungry for Stink" (both still with Jennifer Finch on the bass) and "The Beauty Process"... The only thing that misses here is that "L7", "Smell the magic" and "Slap Happy" also have good musics to include in a Best of L7 but due to label changes i think that wasn't possible to make...perhaps someday it will! As they say inside: play it real loud and hope your ears bleed...

3.0 out of 5 stars Wait for a REAL compilation. 14 Aug 2002

So, what do we have? 12 good songs from 3 good albums. Are they the best songs? Maybe, maybe not. Here's the bottom line. For about the same price as this 1 cd, you could go get "Smell the magic", "Bricks are heavy", "Hungry for stink", and "The Beauty process...". Especially used. If you quickly need a 1 disc L7 fix that's not 40 bucks, I suggest "Hungry for Stink". It rocks!

5.0 out of 5 stars I DON'T OWN THIS BUT I OWN THE SONGS! 22 April 2006
By The Reverend Terry Rice - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
ok so I had bought all the albums way before this was released.. L7 is possibly the best female punk metal bands there has ever been.. extremely original and creative the girls did something special when they were together.. it was a sad day when I found out that they had split.. sad in deed..

this is a good CD just because all the songs are amazing.. BUT trust me the albums they came from are ultramega awesome and deserve to be owned by all of you..

Trust me you can find these used for pennies!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for a starter, but that's it 7 Mar 2012
By David Masters - Published on Amazon.com

I'm going to go with everyone else here - if you've never heard anything from L7, then this is a decent place to start, something that will give you a general idea of what they sound like. But a 'best of'? Hardly.

This CD only covers 3 albums done by L7, the 3 they recorded when they were with Slash Records (as the name suggests). It includes some good stuff - "Mr. Integrity", "Bad Things", "Everglade", "Pretend We're Dead", etc. But it's nowhere near the best of just those three albums.

It misses out on a lot of other righteous songs, such as "Wargasm", "Slide", "This Ain't Pleasure", "Drama", "Shirley", and quite a few others.

Get this album only if you've never heard L7 before (punk / grunge / rock / alternative... whatever you want to call it). If you like it, than at /least/ get Hungry for Stink, Bricks Are Heavy, and The Beauty Process: Triple Platinum - those are the three albums represented by this 'best of' collection. Then you can check out the rest of L7. Just be prepared to blow your speakers out, and to have your mind blown.

5.0 out of 5 stars L7 was the greatest 2 April 2008
By Johny Bottom - Published on Amazon.com

Oh how I miss L7 and there original, hard edged brand of rock n roll. I actually saw this CD in a mall when I was stationed in Okinawa Japan. I didn't bother buying it because like other reviewers, I have had these songs for years on original CDs. There are no songs here from either their self titled LP, nor any from Slap Happy. This is because those albums were not on Slash records.

L7 was an awesome band and there are some great songs on here, Pretend we're Dead, Monster, and Everglade being among my favorites of the songs represented on this disk. However all their albums were great and I think you would have a beter overall knowledge and appreciation of L7 if you bought their studio albums instead. Check eBay or Pawn SHops and you can probably buy ALL their albums for less than 15 dollars.

I wish they would come back, but like Lita Ford, I don't seen anything on the horizon for a long time. Donita has gone solo and is gigging around right now, catch her if you can.
