Product Description

CD Description

Noddy Holder (guitar and vocals) Jim Lea (bass, violin and keyboards) Dave Hill (lead guitar and glitter) and Don Powell (drums) sold an incredible 50 million records in the seventies, scoring 17 top 20 hits, six number one singles (they were the first group since The Beatles to score three straight number ones on the day of release) and notched 33 top 30 hits from Get Down And Get With It in 1971 to Radio Wall of Sound in l991, based upon their own compositions and a successful live formula of stomp and deliver. Yet they also remain one of the most astonishingly underestimated rock bands of all time as much of Slade s musical depth and performance was masked by their flamboyant image. It is time now to not just look wot they dun but to give credit for what you can hear they dun on this comprehensive retrospective and see with your own ears how significant they really were. Frequently described as the missing link between the The Beatles and Oasis, Slade had a wide-ranging influence on rock music and there is much more to them than meets the eye. This anthology is the first really comprehensive collection to emphasise the point. The four CDs cover all Slade s hits plus key album tracks, rare B sides and recordings from early in their 25 year life-span. This is the definitive overview of Slade s music, enabling us to appreciate the depth and versatility of a band who justly get nominated every year for a life time achievement award - something which surely someone will soon realise is long overdue. Let the Gud times roll! At 84 tracks this is the definitive overview of Slade s recording career, including rare cuts, previously unissued on CD A long box, beautifully designed by Estuary English and featuring many previously unpublished photos Compiled by Slade authority Mark Brennan, the package also contains an entertaining 15,000 word essay by former Slade press agent Keith Altham (including input from all for members), a gallery of picture sleeves and a full UK discography Remastered by Tim Turan at Turan Audio for superb sound quality

Essential Stuff 16 Oct 2006
Format:Audio CD
A great box-set at a fantastically low price price. The first two discs are totally classic and the last two contain some good songs mixed with lesser material. Good booklet too with lots of rare photos and information.

A must buy if you are thinking of getting the best of set released last xmas as all tracks on that bar one are presented here and the sound quality here is far superior due to the remastering.

So, buy, buy, buy and get down and get with it.

If you've not got any Slade discs in your collection then now is the time to put that right and this is the set to do it with. All the early 70s classic singles are there along with those from the band's Indian summer in the early 80s. However, alongside the hits (that have been compiled so many times before)and in equally well remastered sound quality are dozens of choice album tracks and rare B-sides (many released on CD for the first time).

This collection follows the band in its struggle to break in to the big time, its period of domination of the UK glam rock scene, its period in the doldrums when punk rock took over and then its rebirth courtesy of an against all odds live performance that stole the show at the 1980 Reading rock festival. Forget the garish glam fashion and trappings and just listen to what a great band Slade were and how the songwriting team of Lea and Holder had its finger on the pulse of the British public like no other since Lennon and McCartney. Once you've played these 4 discs to death in amazement then buy the Slade Alive anthology (3 live albums and the Reading live EP on 2 CDs). Great though the studio material undoubtedly was, Slade excelled as Live Act - a fact that sustained them when their record sales dwindled in the late 70s and then brought them back from the dead to chart several more hits and even finally break into the American chart.

4 CD set with a superb booklet. This has to be the bargain of the year ...and yes it includes the Xmas song!

At last the long waited slade box set. 4 cd's 84 tracks, plus a great booklet full of imformation about the band and some great photo's. I first became a slade fan in 1972 when i first heard Tak' Me Bak' Ome, i was not into music then but after hearing that song i was hooked on music and slade. A lot of people think of slade as that glam rock band that sang that xmas song, but there was so much more to them than that. They were the biggest selling singles band in the country around the glam rock era, and with song,s like Mama Weer All Crazee Now and Cum On Feel The Noize you can see why. But slade was never just about noize. The ballad Everyday, Far Far Away and How Does It Feel are just great song,s and show just what great songwriters Holder and Lea were. Slade were also a great live band and it was due to that fact that they made there comeback in 1980 at the Reading festival. This box set includes a lot of their 80's output. The highlights for me being rock song's like We'll Bring The House Down and the great album track Rock And Roll Preacher. Also their biggest 80's hit My Oh My. If you want to hear more of slade apart from just the hit singles, this is a great place to start. 4 cd's at under £18, great value for money. And as the box says A 4 cd anthology 1969 - 1991. That,s a lot more than just a seventies glam rock band.
