5.0 out of 5 stars This is real astronomy for amateur astronomers 4 Jun 2010
By R. Cook
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is an excellent book describing 'real' astronomy projects for budding astronomers. This is NOT a picture filled book showing photos taken by satellites or professional astronomers, nor is a "look at this, look at that" type book.
This book takes you through the many varied aspects that a keen astronomer can carry out when studying the sky. The author's style is easy to read and all written from personal experience. He portrays with great enthusiasm his interest and love of all things astronomical, from comet hunting, variable stars, moon and planets, Messier objects, solar and more. All this, thrown in with sufficient background and history to make it an interesting read.
The edition I read was published in 1993 and equipment developments and things have moved on but this is still a good comprehensive foundation and worthwile read.
