4.0 out of 5 stars Military Detail a Plenty 19 Sep 2008
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Written in 1992 this book describes, a Russian backed attack on South Africa by the neighbouring countries. This leads to the world's sixth carrier battle between the Russians and the Americans. The military detail is great and very believable. If you want character detail, look elsewhere. If you want action and lots of military detail, get it.

5.0 out of 5 stars quality for less 29 Jan 2011
By Hez
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Verified Purchase
My husband had read this book so many times that his copy had fallen to bits. I was so pleased to be able to get him another copy. The advert said good condition and it certainly was, it was like brand new and only cost a fraction of what he paid for the book new some 20 years ago.
Well done, keep up the standard

Starting with civil war in South Africa the novel draws American and Soviet Carrier forces into an enormous battle in the Indian Ocean East of Africa.
The descriptions of Carrier Aviation, Soviet and American, are woven into brilliant panoramas of Naval wafare.
A huge range of flight operations are described from aerial refuelling, ground attack, intercepts, anti - ship and more.

5.0 out of 5 stars You just can't make it any better! 13 Jan 1998
By Dennis Mathes - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I've read this book right after I finished reading Tillman's "Warriors". He describes in a fascinating way a conflict between the Soviet Union and the United States off the coast of South Africa. If you like reading Tom Clancy, you have to read this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars one of the best naval war novels ever 31 July 1998
By Jeffrey Owens - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This novel is the bible of Harpoon game players. Tillman's description of naval technology and tactics is second to no one. Character development is more than adequate and the plot moves at a fast clip. I just hope he gets around to writing another novel set in the present day.

5.0 out of 5 stars What A Book ! 9 Mar 2001
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This book is a lost gem compared to any other in its genre, its descriptions of modern naval warfare put Clancy to shame. Its story line is similar to Larry Bonds "Cauldron" but places the emphasis on the action at sea but still carries the story of the land war very well. Why has he not written more books of this kind ?

5.0 out of 5 stars The Bible of Modern Naval Warfare 26 Nov 1999
By Robby Yusaka - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
The Sixth Battle describes a very technical detail of modern carrier war. I don't think all people can understand the true meaning of this book. But for naval warfare fans..this book is next to King James Bible. I always play the war in my head when I'm going to sleep. APG 71 Up.....Fox Three...Fox Three.
