Book Description

The sounds could only mean one thing... They were coming for me...

Victor’s memory has been damaged from months of torture and enslavement. There’s one thing they can’t steal from him…the hope of finding his lost family. Carina is haunted by strange visions and the symbols etched into her skin. She will stop at nothing to discover her true identity.

In this tale of survival and vengeance, two young humans fight back against the oppression of an alien race called the Kuljik. Dangers and unspeakable horrors lie around every corner of the Sity, a violent metropolis where enslaved humans are abused for the pleasure of the aliens. Victor and Carina are both blessed with mysterious supernatural powers and represent humanity’s best hope to escape. Will their personal demons cause them to unravel as they forge the destiny of their futures? This is the first book in a planned four book series.

If you don’t get chills reading it, I don’t want to know what will.

The Sity is a gripping read that kept me up all night

The world that Geist has created felt so real and the characters so unforgettable that you have no choice but to become obsessed with the Sity and its inhabitants.

About the Author

Curran Geist grew up in the quaint town of Schwenksville, PA. As a home educated student, Curran often lived within books and his vibrant imagination allowed him to escape to fictional worlds beyond the tiny town where he was raised. Writing is and has always been Curran's passion. By the age of 12, he had already begun writing novels. As a teenager, he won multiple youth poetry competitions and started his own independent art newsletter entitled Inbetween Dreams. While studying Religion at Gettysburg College, Curran participated in numerous poetry slams. Human rights has also always been very important to Curran as evidenced through his experience in the Americorps, with Amnesty International, and at the Museum of Tolerance New York. In writing his first self-published novel THE SITY, Curran Geist has merged his love of science fiction, fantasy, and horror genres with his belief in combatting social injustices. THE SITY paints a dystopian, post-apocalyptic, extraterrestrial landscape that mirrors many modern day social issues, including: the exploitation of children, sexual slavery, and cruelty towards animals. The lead characters embark on a harrowing journey of survival and vengeance while trying to unravel the mysteries of their pasts and forge a destiny to save humanity. Curran Geist received his Master's Degree at Hunter College in New York City.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gripping Sci-Fi Horror 23 Jun. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
'The Sity' is the dystopian sci-fi horror tale of Victor, a young man trapped in a kind of circus where humans are tortured for the amusement of aliens.

I was impressed by the world Geist has built for this novel - it was so unique and terrifying and multi-layered. The action was fast paced and the story was full of shocks and revelations. The characters were well developed and interesting. As the story went on it started to seem like there were a lot of characters to keep track of, but that is a minor complaint for such a richly developed alien world setting.

I enjoyed the fast pace and would definitely class this as a gripping page-turner. I look forward to the next instalment. A word of warning - this is a very dark read with a fair bit of torture going on and gory acts of revenge. I would recommend this to fans of dystopian sci-fi and sci-fi horror.

5.0 out of 5 stars A thrilling read 4 Mar. 2013
By J.J - Published on
This book is action packed and contains many unexpected plot twists and turns. There are so many layers to the characters and as the story unfolds, all the pieces begin to fit together in unexpected ways. If you like sci fi and nonstop action, you will love this book. You will continually re-evaluate your opinions of the characters as you read - the setting and characters are not what they first seem to be. Lots of surprising and thought provoking ideas. A thrilling read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Page Turner! 29 May 2013

This book is a must read for sci-fi fans. When I read it, I didn't realize it was the first in a series. When I finished the last page, I was desperate for more! It is well done and hard to put down. The author's villain is a delightfully despicable alien, and the world the author creates is fascinating. I look forward to the sequel!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it! 16 Dec. 2013
By Luvmeabook - Published on
The Sity is now my all time favorite Sci-Fi thriller!

The story behind “The Sity’ is not like anything you have ever read, and if you don’t get chills reading it, I don’t want to know what will. I dreamed about the creepy circus like scenes for days.

I loved Curran Geist’s writing and the world in which he created. I can’t wait to see what else he can come up with:)

This book is dark and a bit gory at times, so I wouldn’t recommend it to the squeamish. But if you enjoy a good Sci-Fi, thriller then definitely try this one.

5 Stars for one great book!

3.0 out of 5 stars As brilliant as Octavia E Butler...but needs editing 22 Oct. 2013
By Demelza Carlton - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition
The story in this book is brilliant - an incredible start to the series. The action, the characters, the byplay between two races trying to cohabit, while the worst of one tortures the other...absolutely brilliant. It reminded me of some of Octavia E. Butler's work, especially her Xenogenesis series.

I'd happily give the story 4.5 stars.

Why I gave the book only 3 stars is because of how badly it needs editing. Multiple typos and grammatical mistakes on each page and characters who appear to talk to themselves for several paragraphs, though they're really conversing with someone else, made the story really hard to follow. I struggled with it in places and that really detracted from my enjoyment of an otherwise amazing ride.

I received a free copy of this book from the author for an honest, non-reciprocal review and that is one of the two reasons why I finished the book - the other reason is the compelling story line.

Following a comprehensive edit, I'd recommend this book and the rest of the series to anyone who likes post-apocalyptic or dystopian science fiction.
