Book Description

Every woman makes choices - but what if those choices risk her family?

Product Description

After building an empire that has made her a legend in business, Olivia spends months each year planning a lavish holiday for everyone in her family to enjoy. This summer she has arranged a dream trip on a luxurious yacht in the Mediterranean, which she hopes will be the most memorable of all. More than anything, she hopes to express her love and her regret at all the important times she missed during her children’s early years.

But her younger daughter, Cassie, a hip London music producer, refuses the invitation altogether as she does every year. Liz, her older daughter, is preoccupied with a chance to recapture her dream of being a writer and is terrified of failure, again. And her sons John and Phillip work for her, for better or worse, with wives who wish they didn’t. Immersed in the splendour of the Riviera, this should be a summer to remember, but old resentments die hard, and Olivia is still running the business full-time.

As each of these individuals confront the past and the challenges of the present and future, they also learn to accept the enduring, unconditional love of their family – and a mother who is strong enough to take more than her fair share of the blame, and loving enough to accept them as they really are. The question is: can they do the same for her?

3.0 out of 5 stars not up to scratch 11 Nov 2012
Format:Hardcover
I've been most disappointed with the work of DS up to date. This book reads like one of Barbara Taylor Bradford's books I read some time ago. It really was sad that the ending was so predictable and not grittiness to it at all. This is the secound book of hers that I've not enjoyed.

One of Danielle Steele 's best. It is written with such feeling that you can't help becoming deeply involved in the story line. Couldn't put it down once I started it!

2.0 out of 5 stars Predictable 17 Nov 2012
By Dee07
Format:Paperback
Danielle Steel's books are sadly becoming monotonous and the storylines totally predictable. I have everything she's ever written, began reading her books back at the beginning (the first was Now & Forever), but over recent years her writing has totally deteriorated, she no longer so much as tells a compelling story that draws you in, but simply dictates a series of events. Her books are no longer page turners for me. And to be honest, this book, given that the world is in a devastating recession and millions of people are struggling to pay bills and survive financially, wasn't an escapism into the delights of richness and wealth, but rather a dismaying example of tastelessness and a total lack of awareness of 'real life'! It seemed to demonstrate to me that Steel, living her own life of vast wealth, is cut off from the realities of life and the struggles therein. I don't mind reading about rich people, but at least give them real personalities instead of the wooden characters she talks about, and tell a real story, perhaps even find a moral message that money isn't the only way to find real happiness because in most of Steel's books it seems that you have to be rich and lead an affluent lifestyle...or be nothing!
