More About the Author

Vivienne Smith is a writer, trainer, presenter, transformational coach and certified NLP and Hypnosis practitioner. She also a Regional Director of the Athena Network, a business women's networking group.
"Once upon a time I was perfectly happy - complacent, even. But then my world came crashing down and I was suddenly a single mum of two small children, losing sleep over how to pay the bills. My health suffered and my weight yoyo-ed as I tried to get my life in order. Luckily I'd done a lot of personal development through books and CDs and with the help of skilled practitioners. The things I learned allowed me to retain my sanity, self-esteem and sense of humour and to help my children get through the experience. I discovered how to release the traumatic experiences and emotions that were holding me back, get my weight under control and find more fun, fulfilment and balance in my life (not to mention my lovely husband!) Because I know from personal experience how challenging life can be this allows me to empathise with my clients' and readers' problems and worries and I love to help them create the life they deserve".
Her experience as a single mum prompted Vivienne to write a book about the subject. It has been the fulfilment of a long term ambition to turn what was at the time a negative and distressing experience into an opportunity to help others get through similar challenges. Now happily remarried, she lives with her husband and two sons in beautiful West Sussex, on the south coast of England.

If your relationship breaks down and you find yourself alone and trying to come to terms with life then this book will be an absolute lifeline. Sometimes it can appear to be an almost impossible task just to move forward but when there's children involved you just have to get on with it. This book not only tells the stories of other women in your position but also provides a wealth of practical help. This is a self-help book with a difference, it will guide you every step of the way. I particularly appreciated being able to contact professionals directly and their guidelines were very clearly explained.

Reading Single Mum's Survival Guide helped me to understand what someone very close to me is going through right now. Because I am not a single mum, I can only imagine how much Smith's book helps mums first-hand who are going through an incredibly difficult time in their lives, but I imagine it helps them a great deal. I can see that this book would be the lifeline they need in order to help them both emotionally and also on a practical level. What stood out for me were the personal accounts of the mums, including the author's, who talk openly and honestly about their experiences. This is a very powerful and crucial element of this book.

I enjoyed chapter 6 Staying Fit and Healthy and Keeping Your Energy Levels High about taking care of your health and making sure you stay healthy as that has a knock on effect for our children. This is something we know but don't always do so I found this a useful reminder. In this chapter Smith also talks about the importance of building a support network and ideas for how to do this, how to ask for help and the benefits this could have for your children.

I could relate to chapter 7 Ongoing Support For The Children about family rules and moreover family culture. Smith hits on something so important for re-building your family during and after divorce and that is creating and maintaining a safe, secure, reliable and loving environment for your children no matter what.

But Smith says all this much better than I can as she's been there and done this. So get her book! Get it as a gift for yourself or for someone else.
