Beccy Owen is about to de-robe you of all those ragged garments of love, fear, hope and redemption you have been clininging to for years. She will plunge you head first into a soothing pool of realisation and passion where your ears will be reborn! On the first few listens you will be so immaculately stunned by this girl's voice that you may well miss the songs. Listening again, as you will, you begin to realise that Owen is in fact a medium for messages from the divine! The range of songsmithing and lyrical integrity here is nothng short of a revelation. From the tenderest, heartbreaking ballads to the rousing euphoria of a full brass-ensemble, Owen sets out on a dangerous sea of melody to be embraced as a multi-genre ship. One minute you are praying to the lord to stop you from weeping profusely at her sparse arrangements, the next you are being carried away with 20-plus musicians on the goose-pimple express! Having now had the honour to see Beccy play live, it is clear to see we have been blessed with an unfathomable talent. You will remember the day you bought this album, the day that you started saying "she's not as good as Beccy Owen" when you hear the latest diva wannabe being touted by a formulaeic radio station near you.....utterly essential.

This is one of my all time favourite albums. Some achingly beautiful tracks 'summersong', 'the funny side' and 'mention'. The themes covered in these songs are personal, requited and unrequited, love songs that hurt the soul and love songs that heal the soul. I urge you to buy this for the good of your soul.
Co-produced by Kathryn Williams engineer Dave Maughan.
When you get to the title track the album lifts off to a celebratory jazz sophistication but before that it canoodles, cajoles and connects in all of the right places that an album should. Oh just buy it you won't regret it!

Sublime 8 April 2006
Beccy is a talent that this country really should clasp to its matronly bosum whilst, in the fashion of a loving aunty, secretly slipping a 50 quid note into her waistband. She is not only an amazing and talented writer and performer, but her love of her art means that she is walking the worn tightrope of funding her own production, simply so that she can share her gorgeous music with us. I feel honoured to have seen her perform live, when it's just breathtaking and beautiful to behold. See her play, buy her albums and please do buy her a drink too. She's an absolute gem.
