There's much more to Labi Siffre than a songwriter and singer. Over the years I've grown to love his music, his lyrics have always inspired me even though I may not share or even understand his personal angst. Labi is clearly a complex (and at times angry) man and his poetry in recent years goes some to explaining it.

Concentrating solely on his music, this album, along with the other recent EMI re-releases, have been eagerly awaited for donkey's years. And now they're here it's been worth the wait.

If ever there's been a genius who didn't get the accolades that were due it was Labi Siffre. That's right, a genius.

Not sure? Try "Till Nightime Comes Along" which is a bonus track on this album...if that doesn't convince you nothing will.

This album came out when I was four years old and I remember my father loving Labi's music. Such a talent! He has a beautiful voice and is a superb lyricist and to top it all is a great guitarist. He used to regularly appear on The Cliff Richard Show (in the same way that Barbara Dickson appeared on the Two Ronnies)

His debut album is fantastic (entitled...Labi Siffre)but Singer and the Song just pips it for me. 'Not so long ago'(there was a man I knew quite well. He didn't think much, he didn't think so) and 'Bless the Telephone' (strange how a phone call can change your day)are beautiful and send shivers down the spine. The top track on this album without a doubt is 'Nothing in the world like love' with heartfelt words of passion!

er... think I may have oversold that but hey...buy it it's a fab album...trust me I am a Doctor.

I have this original on vinyl but had not listened to it for years - I am loving this as much now as when I first heard it in the 70s. Love Labi Siffre to bits - he's fab

Bought this on vinyl when I was 14, and practically wore it out. People tend to only associate Labi with the songs' It must be love' and the stellar 'something so strong', but they need to buy this CD of his very early years. Most, if not all of the tracks on this CD are fabulous and goes to prove just what a wonderful singer songwriter Mr Siffre is. And to top it all there are bonus tracks included which I had never heard before. I was knocked out by 'Till nighttime comes along' - absolutely hauntingly heartbreakingly beautiful. Buy, listen and enjoy.
