Sims 3 Guide Review 15 Jun 2009
Format:Paperback
I bought this Guide for £12.99 from a GAME as an impulse purchase, for me, I don't think it was worth it.

The experience I've accumulated in Sims 2 and the Sims 3 ingame tutorials, leaves the basic information in this book redundant.

There are lots of tables giving information about the items which you can purchase for your home, these tables take up quite a few pages and don't really add anything more to the game. You can tell from order of the items in the game which are the ones that add more 'environment' or 'fun' and it doesn't take a few seconds of ingame clicking to get all the item information you need.

It does have a location guide and map to finding collectables, which could be useful for people who are interested in doing this. There's also information on things like 'how many times you can 'chat' with a Sim before they find you dull' etc.. For me this information is a little surplus, I already know not to repeat things too often.

Among the few pages I did find interesting, were in the section regarding careers, it allowed me to plan my Sim's traits and skills so they had a boost in which career I chose for them.

I would only recommend this book to a Sims collector, and not someone who's just looking to fill some time before a new release.

Disappointing 19 Jun 2009
Format:Paperback
I had the Sims 2 Prima guide and loved it, so didn't think twice about buying this one for the Sims 3. Sadly, it's nowhere near as useful as its predecessor! It reads more like a very long (and very positive) review than a guide book, and while this does make it nice to read, and the author comes across as very likeable, I don't feel I actually learned anything of use from the author raving on about how good the game is. Most of the information in the guide is easily picked up in the game (the tutorials are great), or is already common sense. Where the Sims 2 guide went into great detail about all sorts of aspects, this one just... didn't. I was expecting little tidbits that I wouldn't find anywhere else, but this was not the case. An example is that my boyfriend told me about being able to change your Sim's name at City Hall, a fact I had completely NO IDEA of after reading the guide cover-to-cover. Another thing that bothered me was the omission of some simple stuff, like information on getting a Sim to move in with you. Sure, it's pretty easy to figure out in-game, but then what's the guidebook for?

Also, there are a fair few errors in the text, where the wrong word has been used or words/phrases have been repeated. It feels like the guide didn't get proof-read, and wasn't quite ready for publication.

It's not ALL bad, however... the careers section is worth a read, and I found the table of traits for existing Sims useful. But all in all, I'd say you can get by just fine without this guide. I think I wasted my money to be honest.

Very disappointing... 24 Jun 2009
Format:Paperback
This is badly written, badly set out, and doesn't tell you anything that is not easily accessed in the game's help and lessons. In fact, some of it is totally inaccurate - some of the cheats listed don't work.

I would save your money and just play the game without the guide - you'll have more fun working it out yourself- especially if you've played the previous titles.

Also there is no index, so searching for something quickly is out of the question.

Sims Book Review
This book helps with some hints and tips - however if you are familiar with the Sims games it does not teach you much more - but its a good fun read.
