4.0 out of 5 stars New generation for Sims 2!, 19 Jan 2006
By Ms. Fiona Poole "housegonemad" (Scotland) - See all my reviews

Firstly I'd like to say to all Sims fans that this is NOT your typical Sims gameplay! Forget looking after hunger, sleep etc. in the usual way as does not exsist! All of this is now incorperated into your 'sanity' meter. This is highly confusing to begin with but give it time as it only takes a small time to get used to.

The general jist of the game is to create a popular and profitable hotel along with saving the towns folk from invasions of aliens and robots. (Highly amusing!)

The goals are fairly straight forward once you know what is wanted and there are 7 mini-games for bit of extra cash and variety.

The game is run in 'real-time' which is the only part I would call annoying, my only advice is to save loads of money and buy the new buildings just before to go to bed as this way (provided you sleep for 8hrs) when you wake up your buildings will be complete!

I really enjoyed this game and would recommend it to all!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Different to the Pc game, but in a good way., 24 Mar 2006

If you're looking at this expecting to find a smaller version of the sims2 pc game, then you will be sorely dissapointed, but for all those looking for an addictive, funny and downright good game for the DS, step right up! this game rewards patience, set in real time, it can be a bit annoying waiting eight hours for a room to be built, but each room that DOES get built has it's own special theme: an art gallery where you can draw your own paintings, a jazz bar to mix your own music and even a secret 'rat cave' where you can become the roving superhero known only as 'the ratticator'. this game never lets up and never ceases to deliver. even after the main game is finished, it rewards those who keep the hotel customers (that's right, your the manager of a hotel) happy. with monthly exclusive items and plenty of side quests, this game is the sim-bee's knees!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good concept but disappointing overall..., 2 May 2006
By Kuhlayer (Ireland) - See all my reviews
    Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
While the graphics, sound, and concept of this game (running your own hotel) are good, it fails to be really enjoyable for a few reasons:
    1. Length of game: It's just too short - the tasks are linear (you have to complete one before you get to the next) but there simply aren't enough of them. You're finished before you know it.

    2. Mini Games: There are very few interesting ways to earn money in this game. There's a card game called Keelhaulin, and an Alien Autopsy game, but other than that you just have to wander around collecting stuff to sell (which is not the most exciting way to get money).

    3. Mini Tasks: You are given mini-tasks along the way, like having to zap some aliens or fetch a new item for a guest, but there's not much motivation to complete these tasks. There aren't really any bad consequences if you don't, which means you can be as lazy as you want and still get through the game. A couple of the tasks are particularly boring, and seem to have been added as afterthoughts (since they're so unimaginative), like finding a guest's lost phone for them...yay..

    4. Lack of fun features: While the game has some good features (you can create artwork and play music) several locations within the game are barely used. The City Hall and Jail are two of the main locations in the game, and yet nothing ever happens there. After you've gotten all your rooms built for your hotel, there's barely any need to go to City Hall. These locations could have been made so much more interesting. Even the various rooms within your hotel are kind of limited - for instance, you can't do anything at the gym except run on a treadmill or have a shower. Even if you could decorate these extra rooms, it'd be more interesting, but you can't.

    5. Interaction: A big part of any Sims game is interacting with other Sims. This game, however, involves a very basic type of communication in which you basically never get to say anything to anyone, you just get to make gestures at them. This gets boring after a while.

Now, I don't mean to say that the game is utterly rubbish. It has some good points, like the quality of the graphics and the imaginative & funny basic plot of the game - the mini-games featured are also pretty good, if too few.

If you want a Sims game for your DS, go for the Urbz - it's more basic in terms of visuals, but has more games, tasks and locations, and will keep you going longer.
