Amazon.co.uk Review

Up to now The Simpsons games have been nothing if not consistent: they've all been completely rubbish. However, The Simpsons: Hit & Run thankfully breaks this 100 per cent record, and although it's hardly a classic in its own right it's just the thing for fans who want to worship their favourite characters through the medium of the joypad.

Like many of the more recent Simpsons games Hit & Run is primarily a racing game--a racing game that's very obviously using Grand Theft Auto as its primary inspiration. There's less swearing and gore but just as much running people over and driving lots of different vehicles. You can't steal them off the street, admittedly, and the missions are presented in a much more linear fashion, but otherwise this is GTA: Springfield through and through.

Somewhat embarrassingly for GTA the on-the-foot sections are actually handled rather better than Rockstar's game, with a fairly non-rubbish camera and a decent control system that actually makes the occasional platform sections rather fun.

Most of the game is about driving, though, whether it be racing Principle Skinner to school in order to give Lisa her homework or helping Bart buy some illegal fireworks from around town. It's only when controlling underage characters like Bart that the game's concept really starts to seem peculiar (he only drives unmotorised vehicles) but otherwise the addition of all the proper voice actors from the TV show make this the first Simpsons game ever that is in any way worthy of a purchase. --David Jenkins

5.0 out of 5 stars Probably the best Simpsons game? 24 Jun 2011
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I bought this, getting quite tired of my wii games, and wanting something different.
Let's start with the basics. There are 7 levels. In each level you complete 7 missions, find 7 collector cards, destroy 20 wasp camera's, collect coins, compete in 1 extra mission, purchase 3 outfits, find numerous "gags" (the number of gags varies in each level), compete in 3 different races, find new cars (you get a new 1 with each level, 3 you have to buy, 1 comes from completing the extra mission and 1 comes from completing the races) and also a wager race where you can win coins. You play as Homer, Bart, Lisa, Marge and Apu. Homer and Bart play 2 levels each. I know that sounds a bit complicated at first but it really isn't.
The story is about these mysterious black vans and wasp camera's appearing everywhere. You have to find out what is happening, which I won't spoil for you, but it does involve Kodos in Kang.
What I like about the game:
. You can play as Apu, which I have never seen in any other Simpsons game before
. The character outfits. You can purchase various ones including Homer's Chosen One outfit from the Stonecutters, Marge's Chanel Suit, Lisa's Cool outfit from when they borrow Ned's beach house, Bart's Hugo outfit (his evil twin from Treehouse of Horror) and Apu's American outfit from when he gains his citizenship.
. The cars. There are some really great ones, including the Canyonero, Malibu Stacey Convertible, School Bus, Snake's Bandit, and my personal favourite, the car Homer built that made Herb broke. Not all the cars are great, and you will need to use different ones depending on the type of mission, but from a nostalgic point of view there's a good choice.
. The way Springfield is laid out. All the great buildings are there.

3.0 out of 5 stars Believe me...you'll be hitting and running 3 Jan 2004
The Simpsons have long been the subject of poor games, many just rubbish rip-offs (remember Road Rage?). Hit and Run, however, breaks the trend. Ok ,so it is a clear rip-off of GTA, but that doesn't make it a bad game. As soon as the first level loads you can see the attention to detail straight away. Everything is where it should be (to an extent) and even die-hard fans will find it hard to find flaws. The tunes are also great. Each level has a slight variation of the classic Simpsons theme. Also the character voices are supplied by the real actors so it feels even more like playing out an episode of the Simpsons. Even the plot is written by the writers of the Simpsons.
The game is basically like GTA, completing various missions to unlock new stuff and collecting money to pay for new stuff (vehicles for example). Hitting other cars, objects and citizens, however, builds up the Hit and Run meter, which reaching the top sends out cop cars to bust you for 50 dollars. This is the most frustrating thing in a game ever...EVER! It is practically impossible to not hit anything unless you drive at 5 mph, and as the missions are timed, leads to more frustration as cop cars crash into you moments before completing a vital mission. Missions also lead to frustration. The learning curve is too varied, some missions way too easy, while some lead to broken gamecube controllers.
But enough raving, the amount of simpons trivia to unlock is mindblowing. Loads of cards with memorable episode references, vehicles and clothes from episodes. There is also a small multiplayer game which can be unlocked. Although the game is slightly too short, (hardcore gamers will finish it in under a week), you get a nice package for £30, but maybe only for Simpsons fans (which is everyone!)

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent title ... but.... 8 Feb 2004
By Mr. R. Hamper VINE VOICE
Verified Purchase
The game is a little awkward at times...
let me tell you the good things about this game... and the reasons why i bought it:
It is about as close to GTA your going to get on a GC.
It has 4-Player capability
it has loads of sub games and other stuff..
and been rated best simpsons game ever... now:
It is funny with witty remarks from most of the "townspeople" and most of the remarks from the main playable characters where taken from Road Rage.. but there are some new phrases in there as well...
The control system is very good and the graphics are stunning... the game invloves you doing these missions some hard some easy, some on foot the other in car.. they range from picking something up and dropping it off somwhere to races.
The levels are quite big.. and there are a lot of crazy jumps to do hear and there... but it is a little to easy to pick up money to buy bonus stuff (cars / clothes).
but the main dissapointment for me was the fact that you have to unlock the multiplayer by finding these collector cards in all the levels there are only 7 to find in each level and I can normally find 6 with ease... the levels are big I have been everywhere on foot and car trying to look for it... I looked so hard and so much that i kept getting bored and turned the console off...
But apart from that the game is pretty good. has a few flaws in it but it is still good... I reccomend to any Simpsons fan to get it, once you have unlocked the multiplayer you will notice that the game has a lot of replay value. more then any other Simpsons game that has been released.
