Book Description

Do you struggle to make time to write?
Does it matter if you’re not sure of your novel’s genre?
How much detail do you need for world building?
What’s the difference between First and Third Person?
Is there guidance on how to structure a story?
What’s a character arc?
How do I write a synopsis?

There are guides and rules that will answer the above, but you might not find them all in the same place.

This book gets to the point - in a simple way. There’s no room for complicated jargon or theory. What do you need to know, and how should you apply it?

Creative writing is about building on an idea, creating great characters, twisting a plot, gripping the reader, and giving life to a world. Words are the life of stories.

About the Author.
After surviving the removal of a brain tumour, Leicestershire-based Imran Siddiq, made writing a novel a challenge to conquer. On top of a full-time career, he sacrifices time to write Young Adult Science Fiction. To date he has published four novels, with others waiting in the pipeline.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Simple Source of Concise Advice 29 Mar. 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
It's impressive how much practical and useful advice is distilled into this no-nonsense book. Because of its admirable brevity, the book races through the writing process from inception to publication and much of the advice is delivered in short sentences and bullet points. It's not the type of book to dwell on literary theory but it gives some clear guidelines on aspects of the writing process that may baffle newcomers, such as the Character Arc. It's also so bang up-to-date with current publishing advice -- the hook of the first sentence, for example -- that you wouldn't do much better by attending a writing conference.

I've just completed a Creative Writing MA and found it and interesting read -- especially the sections on motivation and routine. The author's message to his readers is to forget the excuses and Get Writing -- and if this book motivates people to do that then it's a good buy.

A great collection of info, hints and tips, obviously collected over time by someone with experience of writing.Grammar tips, plotting, characters arcs and world building are all covered, as well as much, much more. I found the section of writing a synopsis especially useful and it's all written in a very accessible way with examples throughout. Good value for money!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the Best 19 April 2014

Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I like this book. As a novice writer you can easily become overwhelmed by the number and especially the technical content of creative writing books. The Simple Creative Writing Book is exactly what it says on the front cover. Imran has filled the pages with lots of useful information and writer's tips which will put those who have wanted to write at ease with the creative writing process. It is most definitely a book which I keep on my desk for those times I have a brief memory lapse and recommend it for those who need guidance in more 'simple' terms.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent little book 25 April 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
The Simple Creative Writing Book is a must for beginners, but it's also a refreshing read for the more experienced writers.

The tone is very kind, which is a nice change from a numbr of other writing books that were a little too harsh and commanding for my taste. It's also quite short and always to the point without unnecessary fluff, has useful sections on grammar, genres and technical subjects, and everywhere a lot of good tips, ideas, and examples.

In short, if you think about writing a novel or even a number of short stories, this is one of the books I will definitely recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great reference book for writers 17 Mar. 2014

“The Simple Creative Writing Book” is an informative and easy to read guide that walks you through the steps to start (and finish) your creative writing project. As an aspiring author, I read a lot of “How To” books about writing and this is a great addition to my arsenal of general fiction writing books. It includes sections on just about any topic an aspiring writer may want to learn more about. It includes information on grammar, plot, characterization, world building, conflict, and much more. It also provides several good blueprints for outlining (in detail) larger writing projects and how to create a chapter by chapter synopsis for potential submission to literary agents. Packed with a ton of actionable content, “The Simple Creative Writing Book” will motivate you to get started on your writing project.
4.0 out of 5 stars Best for Beginners 13 April 2014
By Tim Moon - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The Simple Creative Writing Book is a good resource if you're stepping into fiction writing for the first time. Think of it like a Writing 101 refresher. Imran provides useful examples of story structure, adverb usage, character arc, tips for revising your story, and much more. While each of the topics could fill entire books, Imran does a nice job of summarizing key points. The grammar stuff was kind of dull but that's because it's grammar.

I especially enjoyed the parts where the author shares his own experiences. One example, is how it took him a year to write his first 70,000 word novel but he's improved to the point where a 135,000 word novel took him only 11 weeks.

I think this book will help new writers the most. This could be especially helpful for kids from 6th grade to high school. If you're experienced with writing stories, this book might not be a good fit for you.
