i thot this book was very touching and once you started reading you couldnt put it down. it was wonderfully written for its time and it gave you a real sense of how war can affect even the youngest, most innocent children in such an extreme way. I would recommend this book to any1 who finds it easy to identify with characters in a story as this is an amzing story with the strongest of characters and they are an inspiration to every1. 5 star!

Although this book is only slender, the memory of it has stayed with me for a long time. I read it when I was a child and picked it up again the other day because I couldn't get it out of my mind. I wasn't disappointed. It is a simply told, true story of Polish children struggling to survive the war and keep their family together. It is very moving, but not because it begs for pity, simply because it shows the courage and determination of ordinary people to live through terrible experiences and keep body and mind together.

We read this book called the Silver Sword in class. The book is about a real family that lived during the War time in Poland. My favourite character is Edek because he found a rifle and he shot a German soldier in his arm. Edek is eleven years old when the story starts and he does some very brave things. In the story all of Edek's family get split up - but you will have to read the story yourself if you want to find out if they all meet up again.
