This book is the translation (from 'cat' language into English) of a manual written for kittens to help them to succesfully adopt a human, and the human's home. The first lesson that a human will learn from this book is that we don't own cats, they own us! So you really should not refer to your cat, because you belong to the cat.

The manual provides the human with an insight into the seemingly crazy things that cats do, which really are quite sensible if you are a cat! For instance, when you have several pieces of paper spread out on the floor, and you are concentrating on one piece that is not the piece closest to you, why does 'your' cat sit on that piece? Well, the manual teaches the cat to become the centre of your attention, and this is one way to do that.

This is one of the best books I've ever read, and I keep reading it again as 'my' cats grow older and do even weirder things, which are easily explained in this book!

Just so accurate! 12 Oct 2011
By I. Giles TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book (supposedly translated from the feline by Paul Gallico) is the most amusingly perceptive book I have ever read about the ways that cats and humans inter-relate in order for the cat to get its own way and dominate its human household.

As a cat owner since my first one over 55 years ago, all I can say is that I have been there and done it all - and so have my cats!

Neither I nor my wife were able to put the book down. I bought two having been loaned the first.
Absolutely transfixed.

Very perceptive, very funny, wonderful photos, totally literate. What more can anyone ask from a cat!

Mine Forever 20 Mar 2011
By Lily
Format:Paperback
Despite the title, which makes some people think it must be a sad book, this is so funny and so accurate. My first cat was a stray and I think she must have read this book - I can recognise her all the way through it - especially on the 'silent miaow'. She then passed on her knowledge to our later ones.

This must be one of the best cat books ever written and besides having bought it as a gift for others over the years, this is the third one I have bought for myself. This time it is NOT leaving my possession and I will tell anyone who wants to read it to check out the Amazon site and buy their own.

If you are owned by a cat this is a MUST-BUY!
