Product Description

Review

‘First rate…Wilson at his best, a taut, gripping narrative and a sensitive study of the tormented detective.’ Sunday Telegraph

Be aware that this title "The Vanished Hands" is the same book as "The Silent And The Damned". Do not end up like me ordering both, although having read "The Silent And The Damned" I must say that Robert Wilson is at the top of his form again. An intelligent "thriller".

This is the second outing for police detective Javier Falcon - and I would strongly suggest that if you haven't yet read The Blind Man of Sevillethen it would be a very good idea to buy that one first, as many of the things that happen in that first novel are referenced in this, the second in the series.

This story opens with Javier having recovered from the events of The Blind Man of Seville and he is called out to another mysterious death. This one involves a man who appears to have no history, but of course, on investigation, a more illicit history is uncovered. This particular investigation develops political ramifications and Falcom must deal with his conscience.

I enjoyed this second novel as much as I enjoyed the first one. Having only recently read The Blind Man of Seville, I enjoyed following the development of the characters and, with greater familiarity, enjoyed them a little bit more this time. Again, a slightly above average detective novel that is intelligently written, providing some good reading for lovers of the genre.

The Javier Falcon story continues although Seville does not come across as so well-described as in The Blind Man Of Seville. However,, as the back cover blurb from the Literary Review states "its plotting is persuasive, its characterization shrewd". Indeed.

Robert Wilson is the only British writer to really capture the Spanish character. His knowledge of police and case procedures in Spain is absolutely accurate in every detail.

Let's have another two books at least!
