Book Description

The sequel to The Godfather --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

Product Description

After Mario Puzo wrote his internationally acclaimed The Godfather, he has often been imitated but never equaled. Puzo's classic novel, The Sicilian, stands as a cornerstone of his work--a lushly romantic, unforgettable tale of bloodshed, justice, and treachery. . . .

The year is 1950. Michael Corleone is nearing the end of his exile in Sicily. The Godfather has commanded Michael to bring a young Sicilian bandit named Salvatore Guiliano back with him to America. But Guiliano is a man entwined in a bloody web of violence and vendettas. In Sicily, Guiliano is a modern day Robin Hood who has defied corruption--and defied the Cosa Nostra. Now, in the land of mist-shrouded mountains and ancient ruins, Michael Corleone's fate is entwined with the dangerous legend of Salvatore Guiliano: warrior, lover, and the ultimate Siciliano.

Disappointed.... 12 Jan 2006
Format:Paperback
... that I have reached the end of this book. Having read The Godfather just prior to this I expected more of the story of Michael Corleone in Sicily.

Initially I was disappointed to see this really wasn't going to be the case, but what a fantastic read this is - so much better than The Godfather!

I can truly say this is a book where I feel I know the characters and what they are thinking, which is perhaps why it is so shocking. The story in this book is fantastic, the word-pictures of the scenery stunningly beautiful and the brutaility of bandit life stark - no punches held.

The Sicilian is utterly absorbing, taking you on a 7 year journey that seems to be over all too quickly; I was stunned by the ending - infact, I'm still shocked, but this is a book I will read again.

Without doubt this is the best book I have read in the last few years.

Format:Paperback
Based on actual events of a Sicilian bandit- Salvatore Guiliano who in the early fourties led a resistance to the Roman Government and even the Mafioso. How accurate Puzo is with the facts of the legendary story requires research but none the less this book is an excellent read. The book is certainly not a sequel to the Godfather as the Corleone empire features very briefly. It is a puzzle that Guiliano is not more well known as he led a crusade very similar to Che Guevara. I cannot recommend this book enough, one of Puzo's best!

A typical, and classic, Puzo creation, based on a historical character. He mixes his favourite literate ingredients of love, friendship, honour and betrayal to create a Robin Hood esc tale giving a great incite into the history and culture of the isle of Sicily. A must for any Puzo fan, just don't watch the crummy film, it will ruin your enjoyment.
