Continuing directly after season 5, Vic and the Strike Team are distraught over Lem's death. Shane has been overcome by guilt and becomes reckless and suicidal. Kavanaugh refuses to let the case die and resorts to planting evidence and coercing witnesses to lie about the Strike Team. Dutch and Claudette begin to suspect Vic's integrity. Vic learns from Claudette that the Chief plans to force him into early retirement -- and vows to wreak bloody vengeance on Lem's killer before losing his badge. Claudette discovers that the Barn could be shut down if no improvements are made by the time quarterly crime statistics are released.

well, if you have watched all the way up to and including season five you are going to watch this eventually, who are you kidding?

SHOULD you buy series 6 on dvd now?

I don't give spoilers in my reviews, but I do give my impression of what I saw. I saw damn good things with season six.

DVD quality and sound (still no 5.1 unfortunately) same as usual. Some nice extras.

I was not aware of the cut episode 'controversy' until I read some of the other reviews, I can confirm that the final episode is indeed longer than the others. The end credits roll up at 1 hours 5 mins and 4 seconds. I didn't notice that at the time by the way, I was too busy enjoying the show.

Brilliant. You get serious resolution to the story, and I'm not just talking about that darned IA chappie. Every episode gives a real advance to the plot we have all spent time enjoying, and our favourites, such as the geeky Dutch, are still there in all their glory.

Without spoiling it, all I can say is that I came away from this feeling satisfied, feeling good and just waiting (very) impatiently for season seven. Don't get me wrong, the story is tied up, but I want more.

Very, very, very good. I am impressed with the whole storyline, the acting, the action and the ending.

I have been smiling most of the morning as I remember different bits of this series, and especially the last episode.

Highly recommended. The Shield ends with a roar, not a whimper.

The only negative I can think of is that there are no commentaries on the season 6 DVDs, only a few (albeit interesting) featurettes. The commentaries on other seasons have been very enjoyable, I recommend trying them out if you have not already.

It's Strike Team - what do you expect?
In fact, this season mid-way through seems actually to drop the tension and complex interplay of subplots, though only in comparison to the adrenalin-pumping pace of previous series. Don't be fooled! The final episode leaves you on the biggest cliffhanger of all, simply gagging for series 7 - alleged to be the last one ever. It's been a stunning feature of The Shield that while some stories last an episode, some a whole series, the overall story extends across the entire run of the programme. Even 'Lord of the Rings' was only three movies! Only by the very end will all the strands of the whole show be tied up - one assumes. With The Shield, along with morally ambivalent characters and dense complicated yet thoroughly compelling plotting, the only thing you can be sure of is surprises. And shocks.

Please disregard the strangely obsessive comments about running time; this series is a treat not a cheat. Splitting what certainly feels like one long season into two (5 and 6) does lead to a slightly perplexing carry-over of the John Kavanaugh/IAD storyline and you might need your memory refreshing if you've allowed yourself a break between seasons. In terms of criticism, that's about it. Exceptional TV making and exceptional entertainment from beginning to end.

The Shield, The Sopranos, The Wire: all different, all outstanding, all hugely enjoyable. It is a little disturbing that serious and seriously violent crime should be the subject matter of such cracking entertainment, but there you are.

series 6 of the best cop show ever to be made maintains the high level of pulse pounding action and high tension. what makes this show so different to every other cop show are the fact that it is based around a corrupt cop and that you can never guess what is going to happen next. even from the very first episode of series 1 when terry, an undercover cop, is murdered by vic the shows plot twists and turns and you dont know whether to be on vics side or be against him. it doesnt matter though as its so thrilling you will want to watch it anyway just to see how it turns out.

the shield is not a show for the faint of heart. right from the start it's brutal and shocking with the kind of language and subject matter that only cable tv is allowed to show. it's also very complex stuff. vic mackey, played by michael chiklis, is the type of character that by rights you should hate, but at the same time you're rooting for him because you know that without him around the streets would be a lot worse.
forrest wittaker bows out this series, but i'd like to see him come back as this is one of his most terifying performances and he should have gotten an emmy to sit alongside his oscar for the last king of scotland.absolutely superb stuff from start to finish, great twists and turns that you really just do not see coming. anyone out there who thinks that the bill is the best cop show is an idiot, and really needs to see this.

Season 6 was fantastic on TV and i loved every minute of it. When I originally read some of the reviews on here I was concerned that the region 2 DVD being sold was being edited. I ordered it none the less and found that the total running time is just under 10 hours = 600 minutes, so the running time from amazon is wrong.
anyway moving onto the season.....
This is a fantastic season which starts in the days after Lem's death and goes to a brilliant season finale. The finale will leave you gasping for season 7 and wondering what could happen.
The acting and directing in this season is fantastic. This season is a must buy and will not leave you disappointed in anyway!
