Product Description

Review

Welcome reissue of a modernist survey.
--Record Collector, December, 2009

Synopsis

Paolo Hewitt, celebrated former NME scribe and acclaimed biographer of Steve Marriott, The Jam and Oasis, collects the best ever writing on the original, and peculiarly British, cult of Mod. Hewitt's hugely readable collection documents the clothes, the music, the clubs, the drugs and the faces behind one of the most misunderstood and enduring cultural movements. Includes hard to find pieces by Tom Wolfe, bestselling novelist Tony Parsons, poet laureate Andrew Motion, disgraced Tory grandee Jonathan Aitkin, Nik Cohn, Colin MacInnes, Mary Quant and Irish Jack.

A compulsive read for anyone with a interest in all things Mod and told in an almost story telling form...as essays which vary from early jazz inclined Modernists to Jamaican rude boys... some photos wouldn't have gonne ammis but the aims are clear and you get what you expect... maybe wanting a little bit extra.

1980's Mod rally exclusive photos, as well as never before seen photos of Paul Weller, Steve Marriot and The Jam, Specials etc are part of the Mod experience of the following book This is Our Generation Calling: Punk and Mod in and Around Sheffield - The Conclusion

Two or three good looks at this "Mod" period.
But the book is cheap : no pictures, and if you open it too fast somme pages fall apart. Very cheap.
