Praise of Is it Just Me or is Everything Shit?

Bilious old-codgering taken to the highest possible level as authors vent anger over the crassness and mediocrity of modern life cf. "juice drinks", Otis Ferry, Kabbalah, foot spas, Sam Taylor-Wood and pubs playing "mellow dance grooves". Excellent entry (TIME OUT )

A life-affirming guide to the modern world (ESQUIRE)

Product Description

We’ve seen the future. And it’s shit.

From the authors of the mega-selling Is It Just Me or Is Everything Shit?

Once, we were promised a sci-fi future that never arrived. But what if it really is on its way now?

The Shape of Shit to Come takes a funny tour of the future taking shape before our eyes – a future of sex robots, hotels in space, kids making their own pets with gene-splicing kits and people planning, for real, how they can turn themselves into hyper-intelligent genetically enriched cyborg immortals of the future.

Because these things are happening. As of yet only the geeks are talking about this stuff. But is that wise? Shouldn’t we all be getting with the programme? Otherwise we’re leaving the future of humanity in the hands of people who ride scooters indoors.

What a waste of time. The frequent and unnecessary expletives set the moronic tone for this book. Overall it comes across as a one sided diatribe worthy of something from Grumpy Old Men. It is redeemed only by the sometimes funny asides but even these pall by the end of the book. I suggest you do not bother buying this book unless you have a similar jaundiced view to all things.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad 20 Jan 2013

Funny prose but didn't grip me the way I expected. Worth a read though. It's trying too hard to be smart rather than delivering its own message.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good 30 Dec 2012

It is a good book with some thought provoking part but also a little on the long winded side. I think maybe it was more a case of it was just the wrong book of choice for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it. 14 Nov 2012

I read it from cover to cover in an afternoon. Sharp, thought provoking and full of those 'well I never' insights. Most importantly, though, it's dead dead funny.
