5.0 out of 5 stars Great to get a set in abridged version 17 Jan 2011
By Mot Juste TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
My daughter has a set of these in her Yr 6 classroom. I bought them as they offer a shortened version of Shakespeare in an easy to digest way.
My older daughter who is at senior school dips into them as well as they give her the whole picture when she has to plough through the fuller version at school. They are well presented and easy to read, well worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great box-set 15 Mar 2011
Format:Paperback
Fabulous set of story versions of Shakespeare's classic plays. I'm an English teacher and these are a great way to get kids of all ages (or adults for that matter) into what the plays are about. They can help remove the fear of Shakespearean language and help readers get to grips with what are essentially superbly crafted, timeless tales.

4.0 out of 5 stars For something different... 14 May 2013
By ST
Format:Paperback
I wanted to introduce my 8 year old to something different to read. He's intrigued in that the books only arrived yesterday and he's on to his third one! They are not difficult to read and I wanted to share my love of Shakespeare with him. A good buy:)

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing way to acesss the bard 15 Feb 2012
Format:Paperback
Although not brought through amazon, this is the same boxset that we got for our daughter, aged 7. I was worried that although the stories are written in accessible english with plenty of pictures that she might not find them as interesting or attention grabbing as something more modern such as Doctor Who or Tracy Beaker. Well how wrong could I be ! She has read the lot in a week and in many cases (Macbeth. Hamlet, Lear and 12th Night) read three or more times). It is testament to the ageless stories rewritten in accessible English that she thinks they are are so great (combined with reading what are quite shocking stories for a 7yr old - there are not many children's story books where the main character looses his eyes!. For those worried about the more adult areas of the bard the sexual elements are downplayed and to be fair any elements of violence that are not required for the story line also get dropped (but don't forget that William did like to do away with a good chunk of the cast.
In summary I cannot praise this series enough as it is a fantastic entry into the world of serious literature.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fabulous introduction to Shakespeare 15 Aug 2011
By Gabsi
Format:Paperback
The illustrations by Tony Ross make this set of stories from Shakepeare instantly appealing to older primary school, and those at secondary school who would like to become familiar with Shakespeare but are a bit intimidated by the original texts.
I bought these as a gift for my daughter's Year 6 class and the teacher thought they were perfect for the interest level of the children and to complement their class work. For the number of books given they were a very good price and I became so hooked by them in their short time in my possession that they nearly didn't make it to school!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great set of books 27 May 2012
By Joshua
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I saw a midsummer nights dream at London and I really liked it so I decided to get this book set.
I have read one a night and liked the gruesome ones best.
My favourites were Macbeth and Hamlet.
I suggest these books to 7-12 year olds because they are easy to read but still enjoyable.
I would certainly recommend these books to children like me to start learning about Shakespeare.
