Romeo & Juliet: The Montagues and Capulets are bitter enemies, sworn to hatred. Yet when their children Romeo (Christopher Neame) and Juliet (Ann Hasson) fall in love, their happiness is doomed to failure in this brilliant interpretation of the classic tale of love and loss.

Twelfth Night: Performing one of Shakespeare's best-loved comedies, the Renaissance Theatre Company, starring Richard Briers and directed by Kenneth Branagh, deliver one of the most highly acclaimed adaptations of all time.

King Lear: Shakespeare's tragic masterpiece is brought to life in this superb production starring Patrick Magee as the titular king who descends to madness after foolishly disposing of his estate between two of his three daughters based on their flattery.

These RSC/THAMES productions are, of course, sadly dated and the wobbly studio sets are occasionally disconcerting - especially in Twelfth Night. Nevertheless, Judi Dench and Ian Mckellan's slightly bloodless Macbeth is the seminal performance of the Scottish play. Dame Judi is simply electrifying as The manipulative Lady Macbeth. Definitely worth the price of this collection alone!

Great for new viewers and fans alike.stunning performances by very talented actors. Viewing quality amazing, was not sure that DVD showing of Shakespeare would work well being a theatre fan but thoroughly enjoyed it. Still got a really good vibe and sense of the raw emotion from great acting ability. A good theate fix in between RSC visits. Excellent value for money with 4 very diverse plays to choose from. Will definately order more of this collection. Love it.

Of the three DVDs we've so far played, two of them (Romeo & Juliet & Twelfth Night) were faulty - They either froze during play or stopped completely. We haven't yet tried King Lear. Acting quality was extremely good.

I write this on behalf of my class, whom I purchased it for. In their words, its still filled with gobble-de-goop, but they got the jist of the story line. If you are in to Shakespeare you'll love it, if you are thinking of purchasing it to study... get your popcorn and large bottle of Pepsi's at the ready.... and try to persevere!!!
