4.0 out of 5 stars Authoritative guide for novice owners 21 July 2003
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book would benefit most those contemplating keeping a horse for the first time, or those fairly new to caring for horses. It is however very detailed and the more experienced horsewoman or horseman would most likely find it useful in places.

The equipment, routines and practices the author advocates are very specific and constitute authoritative and sound advice – although perhaps a bit idealistic for the majority of us who don’t live in a perfect world. It does however cover all the basics very comprehensively and is well-organised and well-indexed, which makes it great reference book. On the whole, it’s also written in straightforward English and easy to read – unlike a lot of horsey books! I recommend this highly to anyone without much experience of keeping horses as an excellent guide to the basics.
