Book Description

20 April 2012
After graduating from college, Brian Patton was back to living at his parents' home in Pennsylvania, a public relations graduate with an expensive education but no job. He watched a cooking show and thought, I can do that, enjoying the simplicity of a recipe that sounded and looked delicious but was so easy he didn't have to write it down to make it himself. After moving to Los Angeles, he experimented with veganism. He discovered he lost weight and felt great, with more energy and vitality, and he's been a vegan ever since. But, he's still the "regular dude" who wants to eat sandwiches, sliders, onion rings, pizza, and drink beer and cocktails while he watches the game. He became The Sexy Vegan by posting a video cooking demonstration on YouTube. This new cookbook covers the basics of cooking, from slicing vegetables to finding the right type of tofu to recreating favourites without meat or dairy. With more than 100 recipes, Brian covers everything from cocktails (according to the Sexy Vegan, the most important meal of the day) to amazing breakfast sandwiches to desserts such as Sailor Peanut Rum Ice Cream. The Sexy Vegan's signature style is efficient, lively, and funny. He doesn't take himself seriously, but he takes his food seriously, and he delivers great options for enjoying food while staying healthy and protecting the planet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Whole-y Shiitake, this is a Fun-gi (see what I did there? Ok, not as good as TSV.) 10 Mar 2012

I just got my copy of the book after being a fan of his YouTube videos for years, and it exceeds expectations. Considering he's a fun guy, let's start with The Portly Fellow, his version of a portobello mushroom sandwich. The scan code is a very cool touch, but his instructions were so easy I didn't even need it. I just watched the video for entertainment afterward while dining on my mushroom burger. I'm also a huge fan of the snackage chapter; his guac has been one of my favorites for a while, and the onion dip and salsa were just as tasty. I could go on, but I'd rather spend my time cooking and eating this awesomeness.

I have declared April "Vegan Month" (is there already a Vegan month? Hold on....yep, it's November - sorry Vegans, don't want to wait that long), and am going to plough through as many recipes as I can.

In conclusion, should our paths ever cross, I'd like to present Mr. Patton with a bouquet of asparagus and a (artichoke) heart-y thank you for making my life healthier. Kudos to you, TSV.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this Cookbook 9 Mar 2012

Whoa. This is my first Amazon review.

The Sexy Vegan created a cookbook. It's a vegan cookbook, a funny cookbook, a masculine cookbook and, frankly, an inspired cookbook.

After hearing tell of this cookbook (I'm basically just trying to say 'cookbook' as many times as I can in this review. Apparently.), I checked out the Sexy Vegan Youtube videos. My roommate and I literally laughed out loud, numerous times, and couldn't stop clicking on links to take us to other videos. Other than being hilarious, the recipes actually looked really good and fairly easy. And one of his videos actually made jackfruit tacos, which have always sounded weird to me, sound like something I may be willing to try, someday.

The cookbook proved to be the same. The ingredients for each of the recipes are ones that I typically have at my house, and if not, are super easily acquired. Each recipe comes with a funny story and simple instructions.

I love that there's a section for cocktails. And I love that the section is called "The Most Important Meal of the Day"; my kind of vegan. I'm dying to try the Bloody Mary recipe (named "The Bloodbath").

My roommate and I have cooked two items from the book so far: jalapeno poppers and marinated mushrooms. The poppers are not traditional (no cream cheese) but they were fun, quick and tasty. The mushrooms reminded me of how awesome marinating vegetables is, and they're great on salads.

With cute "WTF" blurbs and tips scattered throughout the pages, Brian offers ingredient and cooking method explanations for those who may not know how to chiffonade basil or how to roast red peppers.

The cookbook is a perfect gift for a gentleman in your life who wants to eat more plant-based, or really for anyone who is dying for a hilarious, creative and instructive book that includes recipes like "The Seitan Worshipper" sandwich or the "Et Tu, Tempeh?" Caesar salad.

I'm loving it so far. Plus, there's an ice cream section, so I'm officially sold.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Sexiest Cookbook Out There 13 Mar 2012
By L555 - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I've been vegan for many years, I own a large assortment of vegan cookbooks and have read countless more. I can't think of any other cookbook I've wanted to show to every single person that comes to my house. The book is funny (like, really funny), inspired and easy to follow. I love the "WTF" tips and the fact that the pages are splattered with red wine, which is what actually happens to all of my cookbooks. Most vegan cookbooks are written by women, it's refreshing to see one not only written by a man but totally playing up the dude angle with breakfast recipes like "Hangover Hash" and "The Real Man's Quiche", a cocktail called "The Dirty Dudetini" (in the section entitled "Most Important Meal Of The Day") a sandwich called "The S.I.L.F" (you know what I'm saying here), plus chapters dedicated to cocktails, pizza, sandwiches and ice cream. Though the book doesn't have many pictures, it does a great job of catching your attention with fun recipe names, quirky instructions and informative tips throughout. This is the book you give to your brother-in-law that has been talking about eating less meat, your lazy vegan friend that likes snack foods, your co-worker with A.D.D who needs constant entertainment to hold his attention and you pick one up for yourself because it is the damn sexiest cookbook out there.
