There's a lot of good information here, but the presentation is undermined by an author who seems determined to get in as much unsavory, unpleasant information into the book as possible. There are no fewer that three sections on venereal diseases, detailed descriptions of outre sexual practices like the "golden showers," as well as countless revolting references to obscure diseases of the male genitalia. Also, there is an overabundance of slang ("jimmy hats," "going down the Hershey highway, numerous references to a "strapadictomy") that serve to sabotage the seriousness of the endeavor. Much of the parenthetical material seems repetitive and/or inane--do I really need to know that diaphragm is also called a "phragmie"? There's a good book buried in here somewhere, but a stronger editorial hand was needed.
