The Sewerside Chronicles was a book chosen by one of our book club members and I very much enjoyed it. It's a story about a small (creative) business struggling to make it. The worse things become, the more the protagonist (Che Capri) has to revert to some nefarious dealings in an effort to keep the business alive, relying on a little help from his Sewerside gang of mixed creative talents. That's the basic premise and makes for a good story.... What I particularly liked about it was the fact that it evoked a sense of idealism. The motivating force is a sense of kinship rather than financial self-interest, which I think is particularly poignant with what's going on in the world at the moment. Tim Lay is a talented writer who has mastered skill of writing simply (which is actually rather difficult!) and the book is hard to put down once you start reading it.
