Zillael hates high school and the tiny one horse town she lives in. She has no friends and no social life, both by choice. All of that changes the afternoon the fog rolls in and she soon finds herself face to face with three parched vampires.

She soon comes to realize that her boring, small town life is not what it seems and finds herself falling in love with two very different supernatural creatures. But on the day the fog rolls back into town, she finds herself on the verge of discovering who and what she truly is.

One night out celebrating his birthday with his best buddy and Vayle Hemmers wakes up a vampire. It's the most devastating reality ever until he's drawn to a tiny town and a girl named Zillael Decker, who may change his fate for the better.

This is written in a fresh bouncy YA way and I enjoyed it. Zillael (prob. spelt that wrong)is the type of older teen that always seems to be in detention, due to her attitude. She hates the small town she lives in, the people around her, the fact her mom is never around and of course the way everyone stares at her because she is a beauty. During a detention stint in which she has to serve punch to fellow classmates, she is attacked by vampire like beings and that is when she finds out that not only are some people around her not entirely human, but neither is she. The only thing that bothered me about the storyline is that it took me a while to figure out her age, because in the beginning she appears to be much younger (based on reactions in class and classmates) and it wasn't until the author mentioned a car she drove on occasion, that I realised she must be over 16. The scenes with the young male vamp in her bedroom are a bit racy (only a tidge, so I would recommend that the reader be over a certain age). THe book ends in a way that interestingly enough you have to read the first book to understand where and who Zill actually is. I recommend that readers of supernatural/para fantasy give this author a go.The Seventh Sister (Parched, book two)

2.0 out of 5 stars Cannot believe previous reviews... 6 Dec. 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Reading the reviews for this book I was expecting it to be quite good. How wrong was I...
I could only bare reading up the Chapter 3 as the quality of the writing was amateur, which was a shame as the storyline itself wasn't bad. I myself could have done a better job. Everything happened too fast which left you lost, wondering what on Earth was going on. Furthermore the main character seems to experience these odd occurences without blinking an eye.
It was all very bewildering and frustrating and I definately wouldn't recommend this book. The 2 stars are, in my opinion, generous.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Brilliant Read... Shame About All The Typos... 10 Jan. 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
My mum got me a Kindle for Christmas, and this was the second book I downloaded - because it was free, really. I read it, not expecting much, and to my surprise, it was a fab book! What let me down, though, was all the typos. All together I noted 11 errors; that really let me down. The main character, Zillael, is obviously one of those girls who doesn't know that they're beautiful and all the boys fancy her. I find this only slightly believeable. Wheras Derek, the 'Wek' who loves Zillael, is totally UNbelieveable. He is just too good to be true.
That is why I am giving this book 4 stars.

This book started my obsession with the whole series, a cross between twilight and x men, but easy to read and follow, would definitely read more zl Arkadie.

2.0 out of 5 stars Twilight fans might like this book 3 Jan. 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I do not mean it as a compliment. I am a big fan of supernatural tales and fantasy and I have read a lot of books but I could not read past the first few chapters of this one. The writing in my opinion is poor, in particular the descriptive scenes which are almost a second by second account of what the heroine is doing at the time, as if written by a young teenager or someone who has not much experience of human interactions.

The main protagonist Zillael seems to suffer from extreme self-awareness; you get the sense that she is very beautiful but apparently it is a terrible burden. She despises pretty much everyone in her school and is not very likable. She hates boys and when that Derek boy starts to notice her, it is nothing short of disgusting to her. She has a 'boys stink' attitude that you would expect from a 7 year old, not an older teen. And finally there are these powers of hers. She runs very fast and is pretty strong, she has to stop herself from killing her classmate {nice touch) yet despite page after page of inner monologue on why her life is so hard (like Bella in Twilight), she talks about her strength as if it were nothing unusual. When strange things start to happen, her denial that there might be something weird in the world doesn't make any sense, not when she herself is clearly not your usual teen. Nothing in her behaviour makes any sense. Thankfully it was a free book.

...as I love that series. I may be 42 and old enough to know better, but vamps and werewolves there, and vamps and guardians in this one - see what I mean?

Not a bad tale, and from what I checked out on the author's website, the love triangle is limited to this tale, as the first has a regular couple, who reappear in book 3. I did try to find out more, but couldn't find info on upcoming books.

This one was a decent read, but from a very early point I'd figured that Mom wasn't truly Mom, and that Mr Lux was more than meets the eye, and the 'bully girl' wasn't really too badass. Add in Dishy Derek, who I think is meant to be pretty hot, but who seemed a bit reticent, a la Edward Cullen, and Vayle, who though a vampire seems to be more hotheaded and less reserved, a la Jacob, and you can definitely see the similarities with the T books.

Maybe the next will be entirely different. Would I read more? Yes, if they are either really cheap or as freebies, or if the author releases the lot in a print antho.
