Product Description

Something was drawing Kye home after her 10 year absence and she did not want to go. But against her better judgment, she arrives at her foster Mother’s house to her worst nightmare...

The door: kicked in. Her Mother: barely alive. Her Mother’s newest charge: abducted. ‘Be the karma we need in this world,’ her Mother begs Kye before she is whisked away to the hospital. Kye promises she will find those responsible, she will find the abducted child and she will make things right, whatever it takes.

But dealing with her partner's unhappiness leaves Kye struggling to cope. She has to find a way of keeping them both focused on the mission at hand: finding those responsible and making them pay for their evil deeds. And then comes the easy part, the retribution.

I really enjoyed this book.I found the characters plausible and the plot interesting. I liked the fact that it made me think 'Could this happen?'. I look forward to reading others in The Settlements series - hoping that there will be more. I recommend this book and will read others by this author.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth a read! 23 Sep 2012

Ok, first a disclaimer that I do know the author which is why I picked this book up. It isn't the kind of thing I'd usually go for but I found myself sucked in and entertained. I thought it was really imaginative and it looks like there will be further books in the series which will hopefully explain and expand on some of the things I've been wondering about since I read it!

4.0 out of 5 stars ~~The Dissenter~~ 26 Dec 2013
By A Navy Vet...VT town - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
September of 2815 finds Lyssa Talmidge, a scientist, dreading her Peremptory Examination. This exam is given prior to insemination which is required by the age of 35. She does not understand the reason she will have to give up her job for a baby. Lyssa is Derek's "mate" for lack of a better word! He works for the government and is more than satisfied with his position.

A "great danger" warning is given to Lyssa and she must make a decision - stay or become a dissenter. Her life changes drastically in a heartbeat and the chase is on. Lyssa's background does include military special forces in addition to being a brilliant scientist.

Derek's definition of love is interesting - his point of view explains his psychological state, as well.

Looking forward to the rest in this series.

Highly recommended...
5.0 out of 5 stars Good Read 22 Jun 2014

Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
In a topsy-turvy world where one must adhere to unexplainable policies, where choices are force-Fed, one becomes a great danger dissenter, a subversive traitor.
Lyssa Talmidge knew the rules. She was a brilliant scientist with a military background, and a lover scientist, in whom she discovers, she cannot place her trust. Facing the Enforcers would not be easy, but nothing in this dystopian world was simple.
There are few disappointments here. Settle back. Enjoy this futuristic read written by Catherine Ione Gray.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not bad... 8 Nov 2012

But not good either. The characters are two dimensional, and the story is entirely too short to be well developed. I'm glad I didn't pay for it.
