WHAT IF SAVING THE WORLD MEANT LOSING EVERYTHING?

When Eve is rescued from a horrific coach crash by her teachers, she is shocked to discover they possess super strength and speed. But what happens next is even more harrowing.
In the aftermath of the crash she discovers that everyone in her life from neighbours, doctors, dentists, teachers, shop keepers and even her family and friends are actually super strength Guardians sent to protect her. They all have one thing in common, a single minded ferocity that she must be kept alive at all costs.
However, she is surrounded by secrets and lies. Those in the know deny all knowledge of what happened that fateful night. Everyone else carries on as normal, seemingly unaware of the new strange world that she has stumbled against.
With the help of Seth, her best friend, Eve discovers the prophecies surrounding her true identity and the super strength she too holds. With her Guardians pledged to protect her, her closest friends ready to die for her, her own hopes and dreams are put on hold whilst she battles to control the amazing powers she has been bestowed with.
But those that seek to destroy her move ever closer. Will the Guardians be enough to protect her when so many are prepared to stop at nothing to see her dead? And will she be strong enough to fulfil her destiny when the time comes?

A fast paced fantasy adventure for young adults.
With high speed car chases, airborne fights, amazing stunts and super powered beings, this is a story of loyalty, friendship and love

Praise for The Sentinel
It’s a book you HAVE to read, because it’s incredible. An outstanding book that has left me bereft its finished. I wished I’d savoured it for longer. This book was one of those that once you started it was impossible to come away from. It was fast paced, exciting, full of suspense and action that had me gasping in shock at twists I never imagined could happen. It’s a story of courage and adventure. And no matter how dark it gets, there’s always love and hope. – Victoria Loves Books Blog

It's really hard to find the words to describe how amazing this book is.
This is definitely the best debut I've read this year! I just love this book, I want you all to read this book, in fact you all need to read this book! - Love of a Good Book Blog

Holly Martin throws Eve in at the deep end, subjecting her protagonist (and readers) to a torrent of drama right from the off. - Jack Croxall (Author of Tethers and X)

About the Author

I live in sunny Bedfordshire in a house with round windows. I studied media at university which led to a very glitzy career as a hotel receptionist followed by a even more glamorous two years working in a bank. The moment that one of my colleagues received the much coveted carriage clock for fifteen years service was the moment when I knew I had to escape. I quit my job and returned to university to train to be a teacher. Three years later, I emerged wide eyed and terrified that I now had responsibility for the development of thirty young minds. I taught for four years before History Off The Page came to my school to do a Tudor day. I now drive round the country in my little white van, dressing up as a Viking one day and an Egyptian High Priestess the next. I love to write. The characters do exactly what I want them to do, most of the time. Sometimes they do seem to go off and do their own thing without my permission. It is complete escapism into a world where I have full control. I've been writing for four years now, every spare second I have, I'm scribbling ideas in a notebook or typing a scene on my laptop. I have written three romantic fiction books. Changing Casanova and The Chainsaw Masquerade were recently shortlisted for the Festival of Romance New Talent Award. My short story, One Hundred Proposals, won the Belinda Jones Travel Club short story competition and was published in the Sunlounger anthology. The Sentinel is my first published novel.

Eve is a normal regular teenager...or so she thinks. After Eve is rescued from a horrific crash on a school trip, she discovers that her teachers have super human speed and strength that they used to save her. But the shocks don't stop there, as Eve then discovers that people around her - teachers, neighbours, even her family and friends are Guardians with super strength that have been sent to protect her. And they all have one final goal in mind: that Eve must be kept alive at all costs. As Eve starts to make her way forward with this new knowledge, and her best friend Seth by her side, she begins to learn to control her powers as the prophecies predicting her future grow ever closer, but will she be strong enough to fulfil her destiny when the time comes?

I was gushing about this book as I was reading with a few friends and one happened to mention that fantasy confuses them and they wouldn't even know where to begin, and let me just say that this book is genuinely SO easy to get into, as you as the reader are learning everything at the same time as Eve and so it is like you're going on the journey with her, and Holly has done a fantastic job of introducing everything at the right time, so before you know it you are swept up into this new thrilling, exciting and at the same time terrifying world that Eve is now experiencing. So if you're wary of the genre then I really urge you to try this because Holly has written a truly fantastic book!

Eve is such a great character, I warmed to her straight away and I particularly liked that she is feisty and so determined - I was cheering her on all the way. And Seth...oh my you should read this book for Eve and Seth alone that's how amazing their interactions are with each other!

The Sentinel was insanely good.I mean, INSANELY insanely good. More so because I don't usually enjoy fantasy books and this was completely out of my normal genre range. And do I regret it? Hell to the no, because The Sentinel by Holly Martin rocked my freaking world.

Firstly, the whole idea behind The Sentinel was amazing. I swear, the imagination of Holly Martin was phenomenal. She creates the craziest scenarios, adds her magic of words to the mix, and BAM! You've got a novel that's impossible to put down, impossible to forget about, and impossible to not rant and rave about too. She could bottle up that mind of her's and sell it for millions. She really, truly could. The beginning of The Sentinel was brilliant. Completely hooked me in, and then continued to keep me hanging on by a thread the entire way through. I could not tear my eyes away for a single second. There was always action taking place, some kick-ass fighting on Eve or her Guardian's behalf, and the powers that Eve held were just AMAZING. I wanted to be in her shoes so many times throughout reading The Sentinel, just to be able to read somebody else's mind or have conversations with them without actually moving my lips ;) I was completely immersed within Eve's new strange and unusual world, holding my breath and cheering her on constantly. The plot really was something else. There wasn't one single moment where I felt my attention waning. With every turn of the page (or swipe of my finger on my Kindle screen) something new was happening, or developing at the very least. I was never bored. Never, ever, ever.

Holly Martin's characters in The Sentinel were absolutely fantastic. Firstly, there was Eve, Holly's protagonist.

4.0 out of 5 stars Looking forward to the next instalment 30 Dec 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
This book starts with a bang, literally and continues at the same pace. Eve is 17. Her world changes when the coach she is travelling on is involved in a horrific crash. As the coach teeters on the edge of a cliff she watches as her teachers seemingly do the impossible - they pull the coach to safety.

She soon finds out that she is The Sentinel, created to save the world and that all the people she has ever known are her Guardians, pledged to protect her from those who don't want her to fulfil her destiny.

This is the debut novel of Holly and she provided me with a copy of her novel in exchange for an honest review.

This book reminded me of Twilight, despite being nothing like it! For want of a better explanation it seems to have the same `atmosphere' as Stephanie Meyer's series. Yes it is a paranormal young adult romance but that is really where the similarity ends.

Eve is a strong character, accepting almost without question that she is different and that the world is full of beings and creatures that humans are unaware of. She is perhaps a little too accepting, there are very few occasions where she questions what she is being told.

She perhaps has little time to do anything other than accept without too many questions as many attempts are made on her life, interspersed with learning her new powers and responsibilities, and of course falling in love. The love story between Eve and Seth is a core part of the story and a lovely journey as a reader to take. Eve comes across as a genuinely kind girl, whose natural instinct to care for others soon has an effect on her Guardians, who aren't built for human emotions and she soon accepts that it is her destiny to save the world, even if it means dying in the process...
