An all-round great.
Alexis Deacon's work is atmospheric and intriguing, sensitive, beautiful and a bit weird - definitely dream-like and so perfect for this story. The quality of the book itself is great, it's a really nice thing to have; and the contents are so interesting. A timeless, mysterious quality and the expressions of characters in situations supports the compassionate feel of the story.
I bought this book for myself, but if i had children i would definitely share this with them (oh dear! i honestly didn't mean to make a faint pun about selfishness..). It's a memorable thing of beauty, sincerity and quality throughout, even if it's missing bits, and it isn't really.
This beautifully illustrated version brings this wonderful story to children of today. I can't recommend it highly enough. Make sure you have the tissues handy, though!
Ultimately this is a Christian tale of love, forgiveness and redemption. It is very moving and the illustrations in this edition are beautiful. This is a story that will live on in your mind long after you have turned the last page.

I loved the story as a child and wanted a copy for my sons. I'm disappointed though as the moral seems lost with the shortened version.Published 2 months ago by pion135
Great story but quality of printed pictures, cover and book poor and look faded. Loved this book as a child and our other copy was printed at a higher quality.Published 8 months ago by Mrs J C Merrony
By Michael Foreman and Oscar Wilde - for flip's sake Michael Foreman first?- yeah right.Published 11 months ago by Edwin D. Mason
I think this is a little too heavy for a young child to read but I enjoyed it as I do all of Oscar Wilde's writings.Published 13 months ago by MRS V FARRELL
