Book Description

26 Jan 1996 0521497736 978-0521497732
This text provides the practical knowledge and necessary skills for the effective management of teaching and learning in today's classrooms. It focuses on the independent decisions teachers must make in lesson planning, group work, error correction, resource management, and evaluation. A task-based approach is used, and the material presented is well supported by theory and research. Advances in second language teaching methodology, including new emphases on learner centeredness and individualized instruction, have significantly changed the roles teachers play in the classroom and made ever-greater demands on their classroom management skills. This book helps language teachers meet these new demands by providing them with the practical knowledge and skills necessary for the effective management of teaching and learning in today's classrooms.

Product Description

Review

'The Self-Directed Teacher is the latest addition to the authoritative and well-researched Cambridge Language Education series ... Like other volumes in this series, The Self-Directed Teacher is written in a practical, readable style, major points being reinforced by skillful repetition ... It is a welcome resource for teachers, and those becoming teachers, in considering the skills and knowledge necessary in taking effective control of the teaching and learning processes in their classrooms.' TESOL, 1996

This is one of the textbooks I will personally keep once I complete my master program and start teaching. Nunan and Lamb did a wonderful text compilation job, and provide a quite detailed guide for anyone who is preparing to become a teacher, or even if you are already one, "The Self-Directed Teacher" steers your path towards improvement.
