Product Description

Book Description

Nancy Friday's explicit and iconoclastic book on modern women's sexual fantasies. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

Product Description

This is a compilation of the many letters sent to the author by women sharing their most intimate sexual fantasies about topics such as masturbation, oral sex, sex with more than one man, lesbian sex and anal sex. In her extended introduction to these erotic fantasies the author compares the fantasies of today's women with those featured in her previous book, "My Secret Garden". She concludes that despite everything the fantasies of the women of the 1990s are more liberated, more experimental and more outrageous than those of the women of the 1970s. She also notes a tendency for younger women to be freer of guilt about explicit sexual fantasizing. Nancy Friday is the author of "Men in Love". --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

For all the failings it has (such as the lack of diverse sources, and Nancy's sometimes over analylitcal approach), this book does one thing..... it makes you realise that everyone has a diverse sexual imagination, whether they choose to act upon it or not. People who clearly would never 'behave in such a manner' in their real lives, are obviously just as interested as those who sleep with everyone they come across.

In essence then this book encourages women of all ages, backgrounds and sexual preferences to realise they are 'normal', in as much as that 'normal' doesn't exsist. All the women in this book are linked by their fantasies but restrained by their moral backgrounds, religious beliefs and so on. I found it refreshing to read and it gives me hope that true emancipation may one day come into fruition.

Totally Liberating! 30 Oct 2000

Format:Paperback
I loved this book. It made me realise that I was not alone, and that so many other women (of all ages) shared the same strong thoughts and feelings as I did. It really opened my eyes to my own fantasies that I never knew I had, or had just never thought about. It also made it easier for me to talk with my partner about what I wanted, because I realised that my fantasises were 'OK', and nothing to be ashamed of. A definite must, I would recommend it to any woman.

Nancy Friday has written about women's sexulity for a long time. In "Women on Top", she writes about women's fantasies and there are a lot of fantasies herein. Be warned that some of the fantasies are extremely over the top and a bit icky. However, most of the them are interesting and it's always good to draw parallels between peronal ones and those of others. I would recommend this along with "Playtime" and "Against Love", two other books that deal very well with female sexuality.

Monitoring Change
It is interesting that an earlier review criticises the book because it focuses too much on women in their teens and early 20's, yet that is what the book is all about, monitoring... Read more

This was my first Nancy Friday book, suprising as I am a well-read 20 something year old feminist. I see myself as being a liberal and sexual woman yet this book still managed to... Read more

Good Book......sad author
A wonderful insight in what modern women may be thinking in the bedroom and demistifies their needs somewhat for the average male, looking to be a better lover for his love. Read more

A weak approach
Sadly this volume deals almost exclusively with women in their teens and early 20s. You also have to be very open minded - a German Shepherd is the star of one fantasy, followed a... Read more

Surprizingly 'normal' fantasies.
An excellent collection of sexual fantasies. I thoroughly enjoyed the bulk of them. The surprizing thing for me was how similar they were to male fantasies. Read more

A fantastic and wonderfully liberating read.
This book really pushes down all boundaries by exploring the female mind. Hopefully people will begin to realise that women do not get turned by all that Mills and Boon shmaltz. Read more
