Product Description

During a much needed holiday in Devon, Katie and Paul discover the mysterious Morocco House. Hidden in thick woodland, it is strangely alluring despite its ancient grandeur having faded through years of neglect.

Perhaps it is the perfect time to relocate from north London down to rural Devon and embark on a new project and a new chapter in their lives, but Katie is soon to discover that Morocco House has a disturbing history. Will the past remain in the past or is there some unfinished business left at Morocco House?

More About the Author

Beverley Carter was born in Hertford, England. After a few years working as a secretary and office manager, she retrained to work in health and safety. The insights into human behaviour she gained, particularly whilst investigating accidents, have proved invaluable for creating believable characters, gripping plots and complicated motives.

Beverley writes original, cosy mysteries in an accessible writing style. Her characters are often ordinary people, such as your next door neighbour, your boss, the old lady down the road with a Jack Russell terrier, or even perhaps, you.

'My headmaster at junior school used to end assembly every morning with the words: "Treat everybody as you would like to be treated yourself." If everyone followed this simple rule, it wouldn't leave me very much to write about!'

4.0 out of 5 stars Mysteries in Devon 8 Oct 2012
By Ignite TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Katie and her husband Paul move to Devon for a new start after Katie has experienced unwanted attentions from her boss (who is also her husband's boss). They find an old house in need of restoration and decide to take it on, but the house has a past. There are some great characters in this story and as usual Beverley Carter finds their 'voice' so well. When the lady from the shop, who has delivered groceries, sits in the kitchen telling Katie the house's history, you can almost hear her speaking. The author's ear for dialogue is very accurate.

The story unfolds and we discover a 'missing person' mystery involving the previous owner. Paul works away for an extended time and Katie is increasingly unsettled. I found the ending quite an exciting read. Although I had guessed the 'who' I didn't guess the 'why'. Beverley Carter's novellas can be guaranteed to provide a full evening's entertainment. I would certainly recommend this one!

3.0 out of 5 stars An okay read 13 Mar 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The book started well and was gripping, but it lost momentum as it went on and the end was a bit of a disappointment and predictable. An okay read and a good book for the price.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible ending, childish book 16 Jun 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book started well, but lacked depth as it went along, and the ending is the weakest ending that I have ever read in a book. In fact, I would go as far as to say that this book did not have an ending at all!
I did actually wonder, as I was reading, whether I had ordered a children's book by mistake!

This book was a relaxing read. Enjoyed the story which had a few twists to keep your interest. The characters were also credible and I will read more of Beverley Carter's books.

This was an intriguing story. However just as you are getting engrossed in the mystery, it ends so suddenly. Leaves you wanting more though.

Silly but an easy read. Guessed the end. All a bit rushed through with no real depth to the characters.
