A good story that keeps the reader interested. It evolves around the murders in the small community of Seldom Seen and each family have their own worries and problems both in the present and past. Would read more by this author.

3.0 out of 5 stars Twisty death puzzle of increasing interest 16 Feb. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A complicated wordy start leads to a multi death puzzle of increasing interest. The characters grow in you, perhaps could have been more fleshed out at the start to make them more memorable. Interesting.

Alison G has an eye for characterisation and evolving relationships. As of predictable as a procedural piece should be. More please of McLellan & co.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Ayton Swans sequel. 22 Feb. 2014
By Mach1
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
At first there seemed to be a lot of characters to sort out, but an intriguing story and well written. I liked it a lot! D.I.McLennon an excellent police detective and more importantly a human being able to mix home life with work without too much trouble. Ready for the next Alison Greaves book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good story telling 23 Feb. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Liked the characters and how they linked together. Good link with a previous novel. Who did it.? Couldn't work that one out till the end - I like that in a crime novel. The Inspector is likable, no devious or nasty streaks in him. A blooming goog read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent 10 Mar. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I loved 'The Ayton Swans' and was looking forward to this, the second in the series. I was not disappointed. This is an exceptionally good book. The writing is beautiful, the plot is very clever and the stories of the different characters are seamlessly woven together to give a very satisfying conclusion. Even the name of the village is spot on - you can feel the isolation, particularly for some of the characters, of a place called Seldom Seen. Best of all is the characterisation. These people are very real. Excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book 26 Feb. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a very enjoyable book. Like the first book in the series, it introduces us to a wide variety of characters, this time the residents of a Cumbrian village whose lives are connected in various ways, and we are kept guessing right until the end about who did what and why. We also learn a bit more about the detectives we met in The Ayton Swans, including David McClennan himself. Great plot, great writing, great book.
