Book Description

1 Oct 2010 The Secrets of...
Italy is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. From the breathtaking countryside of Tuscany and the majestic monuments of Rome to the ancient beauty of Venice's floating buildings, the stunning appeal of Italy tempts the hearts of even the most entrenched armchair traveller. This beautiful new book, part of Flame Tree's immensely successful "Secrets" series, covers all of the major cities and regions, but also reveals the gorgeous alleys and churches, the little farmhouses, the tiny shops and picturesque villages that create the impression of ageless grace. The glorious panoramic photography is accompanied by evocative text.

If you are in to Italian culture, it is one of the best coffee table books one could have. Like the dust cover, the photos are excellent both as a retrospective of earlier trips, but as its title suggests, it is full of enticing images of out of the way (Secret) treasure places yet to be seen. It contains nearly 200 full-color, half to full page plates with geographical listings covering virtually all of the regions of Italy. As the introduction says, it is a veritable art gallery, but with a running narrative. It also has a complete alfa-index at the end for easy reference. Among the half dozen or so European & Asian coffee table books that I display, it is a conversation piece. I could not have been happier to have it.
