Format:Mass Market Paperback
At the age of 16 Christian Hill impulsively defends a young Dorcas Froggatt's honour and finds himsefl forced into a marriage. As soon as the vows are said he goes off to pursue his military career and promptly forgets all about her.
10 years later, a set of events set Christian and Dorcas on a road to try and find each other and sort the legal implications the marriage would have.
I have given this book a 3 star solely based on the writing and original plot. However, having read most books of this genre I have yet to meet a heroine as selfish, manipulative, self-righteous and basically annoying as Dorcas Froggatt. Towards the end of the book I was ready to throw in the towel in frustration at Dorcas's behaviour. She made Christian out to be a complete villain, even though he saved her from a terrible fate, saved her more than once when she got into scrapes - and still she blames him for everything, frequently uttering the words 'it's all your fault'.
She seems to be obsessed with her fortune and power. I can understand her not wanting to be put in a vulnerable position, but when you love someone who has proved themselves time and time again, you have no choice but to trust. If you can't, then you let them go. How Christian still wanted the little madam after all she puts him through I really don't know. She deserved more than once to be put in her place and it would have served her right to lead a life of solitude with only her money for comfort, then she could see how important it was.

This book made me laugh, I loved it from begining to end, in fact I didn't want it to end. I wished more could have been written about Christian's family life, which seemed interesting.
I can see others opinion that Dorcas was very bothered about money, but in that century if you married you had little control of your life and very little control of any money, unless it was well documented in law.
So I would recommend this book to any one who likes to laugh, and lose themselves in a love story with a differance.

Format:Mass Market Paperback
This book was the first book from Jo Beverley where I felt the story line flagged a little in the middle. I must stress that all the other books I have had from Jo Beverley have been excellent and I cannot wait to read them.
