Product Description

Book Description:

"For once, a book which really lives up to its title. Hall self-published this massive tome in 1928, consisting of about 200 legal-sized pages in 8 point type; it is literally his magnum opus. Each of the nearly 50 chapters is so dense with information that it is the equivalent of an entire short book. If you read this book in its entirety you will be in a good position to dive into subjects such as the Qabbala, Alchemy, Tarot, Ceremonial Magic, Neo-Platonic Philosophy, Mystery Religions, and the theory of Rosicrucianism and Freemasonry. Although there are some questionable and controversial parts of the book, such as the outdated material on Islam, the portion on the Bacon-Shakespeare hypothesis, and Hall's conspiracy theory of history as driven by an elite cabal of roving immortals, they are far out-weighed by the comprehensive information here on other subjects." (Quote from sacred-texts.com)

About the Author

About the Author:

"Manly Palmer Hall (March 18, 1901 - August 29, 1990) was a Canadian-born author and mystic. He is perhaps most famous for his work The Secret Teachings of All Ages: An Encyclopedic Outline of Masonic, Hermetic, Qabbalistic and Rosicrucian Symbolical Philosophy, which is widely regarded as his magnum opus, published in 1928 when he was just 27 years old.

He has been widely recognized as a leading scholar in the fields of religion, mythology, mysticism, and the occult.

Carl Jung, when writing Psychology and Alchemy, borrowed material from Hall's private collection.

In 1934, Hall founded the Philosophical Research Society (PRS) in Los Angeles, California, dedicating it to an idealistic approach to the solution of human problems. The PRS claims to be non-sectarian and entirely free from educational, political, or ecclesiastical control, and the Society's programs stress the need for the integration of philosophy, religion, and science into one system of instruction. The PRS Library, a public facility devoted to source materials in obscure fields, has many rare and scarce items now impossible to obtain elsewhere.

In 1973 (47 years after writing The Secret Teachings of All Ages), Hall was recognized as a 33º Mason (the highest honor conferred by the Supreme Council of the Scottish Rite), at a ceremony held at PRS on December 8th, despite never being initiated into the physical craft.

In his over 70-year career, Hall delivered approximately 8,000 lectures in the United States and abroad, authored over 150 books and essays, and wrote countless magazine articles." (Quote from wikipedia.org)

Great Esoteric Tome 3 Nov 2007
By Chris
Format:Paperback
This is a true esoteric treasure rich in research, deep analysis and knowledge of the world's mystery teachings; though it focuses primarily on the Western traditions. It covers a vast array of subjects too vast to go into detail about - you'll have to buy it - often accompanied with curious and detailed illustrations. As a previous reviewer mentioned, Manly Hall's compendium should definitely be in the library of a serious truth seeker yearning for the true reality of things.

His conclusion to the book is nothing short of insightful and conveys what many conscientious people have perhaps long - though dimly - sensed: that the ultimate destiny of human beings is to undertake the quest to overcome their lower nature and to prepare themselves as vessels to receive higher more virtuous influences.

I bought a copy of this at a bookshop in Glastonbury i jest not !
For decades, ever since coming across Von Danikens "Chariots of the Gods" i have tried to find out more on the subject of ancient mythology -for want of a better expression.
I cannot really think of a "proper "name for this type of area of study,is it ancient religon, mythology, sacred texts, alien insemination/interference ?
Anyway,it matters not really what one would call it, but this book is one of the best examples of the "subject",to say it was written in the late 1920,s by a man who was only in his twenties is awesome.
The reach and depth of the subject matter is just breathtaking.Over the years i have opted to become "pagan " in my choice of lifestyle/culture/divination and i wish i had access to this book a long time ago.It really does act as a guide to ALL areas of esoteric matters.
The style of writting is ,of course,a little old fashioned, but once you become accustomed to the language, you become immersed in the absolute arcane knowledge available to anyone with enough time and will to actually read this volume.
The detail is so immense that you can become a little bogged down with certain areas,e.g the details of the Great Pyramid at Cheops,so instance.
But this issue aside, the book has truly become my "guide"in terms of the ability to research virtually any esoteric subject. You can sit down and read the whole thing (take 4 weeks off work first !) or use it ,as i do,by choosing a particular chapter of interest, which then acts as a stand-alone work in its own right.
In this increasingly crowded market of books covering similar areas such as 2012,Illuminati,Reptililian interbreeding,Conspiracy theories,Mind control,Alien influence or simply "The Secrets", this is the one that all independant thinkers should use as their ultimate reference. You will find that so much of what you come across in other books has been lifted lock ,stock and barrel from this tome.
Thank the Gods that this is still out there and in print.Quite simply, for anyone, young or old with an interest in the "Truth" this is the defining work.
Fully recommended
Love,peace and truth

This book has been in accolade since 1928. The reasons for this immediately become obvious as soon as you open the book. A hefty tome of over 700 pages, each page oozes with knowledge, research and carefully planned arguements and ideas about the mythology, the mysteries and world spirituality. The amount of reasearch alone is impressive, yet when added to the authors mastery of the subject, magical use of language and intricate artwork the reader is left in awe. This has to be one of the best and most inspiring books ever written on the subject.

Although written in 1928, this book is a timeless masterpiece. It deserves nothing less than the full 5-star rating.
