I've followed Ken McClure's series featuring the exploits of Dr Steven Dunbar from the start and every one's a winner. He's created an interesting and plausible character, one with a backstory and character which has developed with each book. Dr Dunbar has integrity and conscience and I've enjoyed both the adventures and moral dilemma' he's faced over the years.

But the real joy in these books is that they're really a medium for Mr McClure to expose and explore a medical science based scenario from hell. We've had germ warfare, killer plagues, unlawful experiments, bird flu and flesh eating bugs. The stories work because they're based on fact and The Secret is fast paced and enthralling. It's sufficiently complex to keep you guessing and there's a satisfying amount of medical and scientific detail to make it interesting. I was both intrigued and horrified by CIA involvement in a polio vaccine programme. There was a different agenda, of course, and the action rarely let's up. One death leads to another, with Dunbar hot on the trail trying to find the links and reasons.

It's a gripping read, I really enjoyed it and look forward to more in the series.

I love Ken McClure. This book took a little more getting into than usual, but once I got a few chapters in it was a thrilling read as usual. The science is always interesting.
I haven't read these books in order and I don't think you would need to, as each book is a great stand alone read on its own.
I don't know why Ken McClure isn't more famous. He is the best find I've had since getting a Kindle.

One of those books I looked forward to reading whenever I got a free minute - you don't get many of those these days! Ken McClure is very clever at moving the story along and combines just the right amount of factual information to make you feel as if the storyline could just happen. I await to read a book about Statins next?!

Thanks Ken McClure for this latest Steven Dunbar book. It did not disappoint. All the usual characters were there and there was the usual twist in the tale. Can't wait for the next one! So glad it worked out okay for Tally!

Ken McClure rarely disappoints and this is a more than worthy addition to the Dunbar series. Compulsively readable with believable characters and science. Thoroughly recommended.

This is the tenth outing for Dunbar and, although readable and engaging, there is a certain plodding quality to it. Dunbar investigates the death of a close friend and is drawn into a series of events involving some odd medical matters. The plot takes an unlikely turn with the kidnappping of Dunbar's daughter. The plot and characters are routine and the resolution of the plot rather under-powered. Medical thrillers are common - to really work they need a bit more complexity than this one offers.
