Product Description

It's Midwinter Eve and everyone in Brambly Hedge is busily preparing for the traditional midwinter celebrations. Primrose Woodmouse and Wilfred Toadflax are to recite a poem, so they go up to the attics to rehearse in peace and quiet. But when Primrose finds a small key in an old wooden dresser, all thoughts of rehearsing are put aside! The mice of Brambly Hedge have many adventures but they always have time for fun too. All through the year, they mark the seasons with feasts and festivities and, whether it be a little mouse's birthday, an eagerly awaited wedding or the first day of spring, the mice never miss and opportunity to meet and celebrate.

This is a magical story of discovering a secret forgotten place. Great illustrations, but current publication isn't as good as it was when we were younger. Hopefully this work will be rediscovered and published in a better format.

The secret staircase 17 April 2012
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
My two grandchildren LOVE this book .They like all the Brambly Hedge books but this is their favourite, it tells the story of 2 little mice searching for somewhere to practice their recital for a forthcoming feast and everyone in the palace is busy and they seem to be in the way. The mother of one of them suggests that they go up to the attic to find some clothes to wear for it and whilst there, they find a key and then stumble on a door, once they open the door, there is staircase and this is what the story is about, what they find upstairs. Although they have heard it many times, when my two grandchildren come to stay (they are 6 and 4), this is the favourite book to be read.

This kindred book will be enjoyed by all children. 19 Nov 1997

This is a heartwarming story for children of all ages.
My 2 year old sat fascinated as I read to her. She
examined each illustration closely. It is a warm,
cozy book for a cold winter day. The detailed art work
compliments the text and allows children to be drawn deeply
into the story.
