I found this novel very relatable - not only because it was set in Oxford (which did add to the enjoyment as i recognized all the restarants and bars!) - but also because Ruth's dilemma is very realistic and strikes close to home. She has just married a gorgeous man, but soon finds that his group of friends are cliquey and Ruth slowly starts to feel like an outcast from all their private jokes and uni life stories. But there's one female friend that Ruth feels particularly intimidated and threatened by. Crawford manages to capture the irrational, insecure feeling that most girls (and guys) go through when in a relationship. The fear that one person will ruin your relationship, even if you have no solid proof.
Not only is Ruth struggling to fit in with her husbands friends, she finds it hard to get along with his batty mother, who continues to act stranger every time she visits.
This was a fun, frothy book, although at times serious and heartwarming. Definitely one to ease the insecurities of a relationship!
