The secret life of Evie Hamilton was a great book that was a refreshing change to the normal thrillers I have been consuming in large numbers recently. Catherine Alliott has created a great character, somebody that isn't perfect and would be an ideal best friend! She is warm and funny yet slightly on the ditzy side. Evie is married to Ant and they have a daughter Anna. The whole family plays a part in this funny story, including Evies sister in Law Caro who is a force to be reckoned with. There is a major shock in store for Evie when she discovers something about Ants past which will disrupt and could possibly destroy all of their lives. Give it a go if you have never read her books.

Catherine Alliott has once again given us a delightfully funny,and warm story!She draws one in from the first chapter and holds our attention until the last.
I found I was laughing hysterically at the antics of Evie,with tears pouring down my face,and then caught up in her worst fears.She has immense warmth,and really does not appreciate just how wonderful she is.So the story takes us through some really confronting issues,and we watch as Evie comes to terms with the great changes which she is required to make.
I loved this story,and was sorry that I could not remain with Evie longer.I have had this book on pre-order and it was worth the wait!!

I read some of this author's early books and found them rather ordinary. I was attracted to this one by its description. It is excellent. I laughed at some of the scenes and cried over others. Evie is a brilliant creation and some of her escapades are absolutely laugh out loud funny. The dialogue is sharp and witty and the rest of the characters are just as believable as Evie herself. Evie's comfortable life is about to be turned upside down in a way she could never have imagined in her worst nightmares and by the end of the book everyone in it has been affected in one way or another.
What really impressed me about the whole book was that the adults really were adults and dealt with their problems in an adult fashion. I find I just want to shake many characters in modern fiction because they behave like 5 year old kids, but these characters felt real and adult to me. Life is not black and white - and neither is it in this book. I would recommend it to anyone who is tired of the women's fiction which concentrates on shopping and boy friends. This is way above the average.

Couldn't quite get a picture of Evie in my mind...

Entertaining and irritating in equal measures
Although not a fan of Alliott's writing, I picked this up in my local library as I was pushed for time and it was in the 'quick choice' selection. Read more

A Super Read and a good laugh.
Catherine Alliott's book "The secret life of Evy Hamilton" is one of the best books I have recently read. It lifted my spirits in this dark period we are currently experiencing. Read more

A Fantastic Read
I found this novel to be completely fantastic. Alliot sets the novel up to apear as a chic lit read, which had me laughing out loud, several times, at the easy humour. Read more
