I loved reading this book as a 13 year old and packed myself off to Shropshire to try to find the location myself, such was my enthusiasm. I had adventures of my own as a result, although not so dramatic of course. I recommend this book to parents seeking old-fasioned mental stimulation for their kids.

I read most of the Lone Pine books when I was a child, but this was one of two that I didn't read at that time as we couldn't get hold of it. I've been rereading them recently, and have finally obtained the last 2! This one is now one of my favourites - exciting and fast-paced. These are excellent books if you want your child to read something that has a strong adventure but little violence and no bad language. Nice to have a different character interacting with the usual Lone Piners too, and someone nearer the twins' age - shame he only appeared in this adventure.
