Product Description

Product Description

The Secret Doctrine, the Synthesis of Science, Religion and Philosophy, a book originally published as two volumes in 1888, is Helena P. Blavatsky's magnum opus. The first volume is named Cosmogenesis, the second Anthropogenesis. It was an influential example of the revival of interest in esoteric and occult ideas in the modern age, in particular because of its claim to reconcile ancient eastern wisdom with modern science.

Blavatsky claimed that its contents had been revealed to her by 'mahatmas' who had retained knowledge of mankind's spiritual history, knowledge that it was now possible, in part, to reveal.

The first part of the book explained the origins of the universe itself, in terms derived from the Hindu concept of Yugas, or long passages of time through which the world is supposed to have evolved. Blavatsky attempted to demonstrate that the discoveries of "materialist" science had been anticipated in the writings of ancient sages, and that materialism would soon be proven wrong. About the Author

Helena Petrovna Blavatsky (1831 - 1891)
Helena Petrovna Blavatsky was born on August 12, 1831, at Dnepropetrovsk (Ekaterinoslav), Ukraine, daughter of Colonel Peter Alexeyevich von Hahn and novelist Helena Andreyevna. In 1849 she married N. V. Blavatsky, and shortly thereafter began more than 20 years of extensive travel, bringing her into contact with mystic traditions the world over.

In 1873 Blavatsky arrived in New York from Paris where, impelled by her teachers, she began her work. At first she attempted to interest the Spiritualists in the philosophy behind phenomena but they resented her refusal to accept their standard explanations. In July 1875 she was urged "to establish a philosophico-religio

well both if you would have listened to a lengthy argument/conversation with a Christian friend of mine, who is of the opinion that this book is of the devil, that Blavatsky is in love with Lucipher or thinks he is God and that perhaps we are all God and therefore that she is wrong and that God is outside of ourselves, whereas I have read this book and he hasn't and I haven't quite made up my mind whether God is totally without of our realm or not, and I think Blavatsky leaves it open to our judgement while pointing out all of the stark coincidences between everything and everything to do with 19th century theological and scientific understanding, cutting through the veils of bull excrement with her own totally confusing sourcing and language manipulation, sure this book is packed full of Occultic symbolism, it's what it's about for heaven's sake, and although Blavatsky herself is wilier than most, she must have had a wild ride while she was writing the notes for this one, good on her...

Timeless classic for Theosophists, basic reference text. This is heavy reading. I purchased it for my fiance who read his original copy so much that it got worn - he passed it on to a friend. I do not recommend this book for people who do not have a strong interest in Theosophy.

It would be better to call this the "false doctrine". This book does not give us anything "new" instead it takes us back to paganism pure and unadulterated. There have always been pagan religions and philosophies. Most of the world's religions, through all of history, could be described as such so this is nothing new. If you would like to make the conscious decision to turn your back on Jesus Christ, salvation, and the transforming power of the Holy Spirit read this book. Is there a road to Hell? If there is it is paved with books like this. Also do not be fooled, this book, and many others like it use "religious" references. They say things and make conclusions based on things and ideas that they say are based on or founded in religious traditions but the conclusions they make are the fulfillment of this pagan propaganda, not the spirit of Christ. However if you take Oprah more seriously than scripture and would like to push God out of your life completely, then this is the book for you. It will remove all the faith in God you have, and will possibly eliminate the presence of the Holy Spirit from your being as well(if that is possible), and it will do it in such a subtle way that you won't even feel it. Read this book, it is the path to eternal death.
