"The Secret on Ararat" is the sequel to "Babylon Rising", a book I remember as a silly but pretty entertaining book. It's well known that Tim LaHaye doesn't do the actual writing on his fiction books. He outlines the story and so on but the writing is done by the co-author. Here, LaHaye has a new co-writer, Bob Phillips. He seems to have written quite a lot of books but as far as I can see, no works of fiction before this one. So, what we have here is a novel by two non-fiction writers. It doesn't work. The story is poorly structured, with inconsistencies in continuity and an ending that's a big anticlimax that leaves subplots unresolved. And I understand this is a Christian novel and the authors want to get a Christian message across, but it's way overdone here. Apparently the authors were unable to get their message across in the main plot so they introduce a completely irrelevant subplot about an FBI agent who seeks spiritual guidance from the main character. As if this distraction from the story wasn't enough, we get another subplot about the FBI agent's daughter going to Bible camp with her friends. The authors also go to great lenghts to preach against evolution. None of this ever ties into the main plot of the book and is just distracting and completely irrelevant. The story seems to be there just as an excuse for the authors to preach. And because of this, the main plot moves very slowly and doesn't really get going until the last half of the book. When it does, there are some decent action sequences, but then the ending comes very quickly and doesn't really resolve anything.
This is a very amaterusih book. I'm surprised it was published by a big publisher. Not recommended. 1,5 stars for occasional entertainment.
