This book is a joy, an entré to the more vertiginous echelons of society and a ticket to all the best parties of the British summer. Sophie Campbell, who never takes either the Season or herself too seriously, is the perfect companion. She has the knowledge of an insider, the objectivity of an outsider and the respect of someone who enjoys all the eccentricities of British tradition. As you don't have to dress up to read it or worry about driving, I suspect this book is actually more fun than the Season itself.

The Season - what is it? Events where a bunch of toffs get drunk. Well it can be, but the great news is we are all invited to the party. It is a mixture of people at these picnic infused sporting and cultural events - just like England is now. You can go to The Season reasonably cheaply and have a great day out. Sophie interweaves history in with her haphazard summer of visiting every occasion on the calendar. Highly recommended!

As the title indicates, a light hearted, passing glimpse of events encountered from a slightly hasty approach to the adventure.
