Product Description

Product Description

God has forsaken this land.

A mysterious plague descends upon 14th century England, ravaging the country and trapping the souls of the afflicted in eternal madness. The feudal hierarchy--and even the church itself-- slowly crumbles as the dead rise to feed and the living seek whatever shelter they can. The bishops of England call for calm and obedience, but one man isn’t listening.

Sir Edward of Bodiam has been separated from the woman he loves and nothing on heaven or earth can stop him from seeking her out.

Edward and two of his knights travel through the swiftly changing landscape of England, a countryside now overrun by the minions of hell. The knights encounter madness, violence, and sorrow, but Edward fights his way ever deeper into the thickening darkness of unholy terror.

Roberto Calas brings you along on a dark, historical tale full of love, death, and black humor. Follow Edward as he journeys to save his wife, his kingdom, and his very soul.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quite fantastic 27 Mar 2013
Format:Paperback
First up, I don't do zombies. I like well-written sf, maybe a little contemporary fantasy if it's smart and well-written enough. When I think zombies, I think kid's stuff. This book changed my mind. Here's a simple litmus test to know if a book is any good: can you stop reading it? If you can't, it's working.

I couldn't stop reading this book. I don't know anything about medieval history, but Calas does a pretty damn good job of making me feel like I'm there. Also, setting a zombie plague in this period - the 14th Century - is a smart and clever idea. His characters are well drawn, particularly the breezily cynical Tristan and the hilariously naive Morgan. What I'll say is, it's not a good book about zombies. It's just a good book. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quite frankly, amazing 21 April 2014

Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was a bit dubious about the book, but decided to give it a go on a friend's recommendation. I'm so glad I did - yes, there are the standard jaded, religious and wise-cracking knights, but the story made me laugh and catch my breath in equal parts.

I love Sir Tristan and am sure I'm not the only one. I've already bought this as a present for others and they've enjoyed it as much as I have.

Brilliant!

5.0 out of 5 stars Non stop action 9 Mar 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
If you, like me, spent your childhood glued to the tv watching Zorro and robin hood, you will love this book!
Zombies aren't usually my thing, and I bought this on a whim but have read it in less than 2 days. Easy reading and a fast pace, great characters, swordfights and lots of scrapes. Great fun! The ending is a bit of a let down, but it obviously leads to book 2. Will be reading that one too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic 14 Jun 2014

If you don't like this book, I'm afraid that there must be something terribly wrong with you. Medieval, humour and plaguers, what more do you need?

5.0 out of 5 stars Zombies and Holy Foreskins. 8 Nov 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Got this for free and was at a loose end having just finished another book so thought I'll give it a go and if its rubbish it's no loss, well I'm glad I did give it a go, I couldnt put it down once I started. Believable setting, good characters, lots of humour, a couple of one liners about the big J had me in stitches, and medieval zombies, whats not to like. I will be buying the rest of the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Knights v Zombies 17 July 2014
By Alan
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'm a huge fan of historical fiction, and love work by Sharon Kay Penman, Bernard Knight, and many others - so I wasn't sure about mixing plaguers (zombies) with knights and medieval England - it shouldn't work - BUT IT DOES!! I just had to finish each episode (chapter) and then the next and the next to see what happens to our heroes. The writing style was a bit odd for me at first (it's written in the first person) but I soon got used to it. Sir Edward, Sir Tristan (my favourite character) and Sir Morgan, face terrible danger and overwhelming odds, but their courage, honour, and loyalty to each other (normally) gives them the edge. I brought both The Scourge and Nostrum for my Kindle and read them in a few days - and I can't wait for Emaculum to be published at the end of July (2014)

If you like historical faction (as I believe it's called) you won't be disappointed with this :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth it! 11 Dec 2014

A great read that was well written. The history in the book was fairly spot on, author did a great job getting the atmosphere of the middle ages right. Knights and zombies, you can't go wrong!
