Following on from "The Matchmaker" from Lisa Plumley which was a story of Molly Crabtree. Molly and Marcus from that story follow through with many other characters to "The Scoundrel" which is Sarah Crabtree's story.

3 sisters. The Crabtree sisters, Molly, Sarah and Grace. All very strong free thinking ladies. All wanting to be independent.

Molly owns and runs her bakery.

Sarah is a school teacher.

Grace is involved in women's rights and runs a bicycle club for the ladies and helps with the newspaper when needed.

There is both Mr Crabtree who owns the newspaper and Mrs Crabtree who keeps the house and tries to encourage her girls to marry.

One down and 2 to go.

Sarah has a quiet different story to Molly and Daniel is so different to Marcus.

Daniel is a confirmed bachelor until his nephew comes on the scene.

It has some funny parts to it and the characters are lovable.

I am looking forward to Grace's story.

Snoring 12 Feb 2011
By Sweet Pea - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
RT rated this story with 4 stars out of 4 1/2. I never trust the opinion of Romantic Times or well-known authors that put their spin on a book just for selling purposes. Riviting to the last page. Well, that's a matter of opinion. Chapter 1-4 lacks tension and adequate conflict. The heroine is wishy-washy and is willing to marry a man that simply wants to use her to take care of his kid. The opening hook was a snoozer, and I'm not willing to invest time in a dull story.
Sweet Love Story... 1 Sep 2006
By J. Nusz - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Daniel McCabe has a problem. His life has just changed, and not to his liking, either. His nephew has just arrived unexpectedly, seemingly abandoned by his mother, on Daniel's doorstop. Daniel has no choice but to give up his skirt-chasing bachelor ways and start making a good example of himself.

However, he really has no idea how to do that. Fortunately, he knows just the person to help him out. His long-time friend, Sarah Crabtree, just happens to be the local schoolteacher. If anyone knows about kids, it would be Sarah. Never mind that her unconventional family sometimes comes up with the strangest ideas, Sarah is rock-solid, and Daniel knows he can count on her advice.

Soon, Daniel realizes that he needs more than just good advice to keep Eli in line; he needs a wife to help him with all of the mundane aspects of trying to be a parent. What better choice than to ask Sarah to marry him? After all, they'd been friends forever, and if Daniel was going to get tied down, at least being married to a friend wouldn't be all bad.

Sarah Crabtree has loved Daniel McCabe since grade school, all the while pretending to be just his friend. After all, when one was a member of the wacky Crabtree family, one had to keep all the friends they could get! Daniel had never realized it, Sarah hid it quite well, but she had always loved him deeply. So much so that she was willing to accept his unconventional proposal.

Sarah sets out to woo Daniel into loving her. First she tries becoming such a fantastic wife that he can't help but appreciate her. When that doesn't work, Sarah moves on to other feminine tricks, not about to give up on her love for Daniel - and the chance to turn their name-only marriage into something more real.

THE SCOUNDREL is a sweet love story - sometimes funny, sometimes serious, but always interesting. Author Lisa Plumley has created characters that sparkle with wit and realism. The Old West backdrop is a perfect setting for the spunky schoolteacher heroine and the blustering bachelor blacksmith. In THE SCOUNDREL, Lisa Plumley has crafted a light-hearted tale sure to amuse and entertain even the pickiest of romance readers.
amusing western romantic romp 14 April 2006
By Harriet Klausner - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
In 1882 in Morrow Creek, Arizona Territory blacksmith Daniel McCabe loves the women when a clerk interrupts his latest dalliance with saloon dancers insisting he has a delivery waiting for him at the train station that cannot wait until tomorrow. Fearing the clerk will have a heart attack; Daniel accompanies him to retrieve the package though he is expecting nothing. His parcel turns out to be a four foot boy who recognizes his face from a picture his mom showed him. His nephew Eli has arrived from the east.

Two months later, Daniel decides he needs a wife to raise his always in trouble nephew. He selects his friend capable spinster schoolteacher Sarah Crabtree who he knows is an expert when it comes to preadolescent children. He offers her a marriage of convenience, which she accepts, but hides her true agenda to turn their relationship into a loving family of three and hopefully more though that might mean causing problems for Daniel that will make Eli's look boyish in comparison.

The sequel to THE MATCHMAKER, THE SCOUNDREL is an amusing western romantic romp that will keep the audience laughing with the antics that Sarah and to a degree Eli pull on hapless Daniel, who will not know what hit him as love for his woman blindsides him. The eccentric support cast enhance the fine historical with their escapades especially his nephew and her students in particular nine years old spelling bee whiz Emily. Sub-genre fans will believe that Lisa Plumley's fine tale is much more than OK.
