I'd like to firstly say that I am a big fan of Terry Brooks, especially the Elfstones of Shannara which blew me away. But yet as I read more TB novels I find that his style does get very repetative. The Scions of Shannara has obvious parallels to his other stories. Although this book has got a collection of new ideas which are interesting, you'll realise the whole story seems somewhat familiar. The main protagonists seem to have almost exactly the same character as those in the previous novels!

Although the Scions of Shannara never seemed to actually go anywhere, I still found myself turning the pages, and I think certain elements such as the mysterious Shadowen, and the crazed Federation, will drive me to read the next in the series.

A decent book by fantasy genre standards, but very repetative if you have read many other Shannara novels.

Very impressive start 16 Feb 2007
Format:Mass Market Paperback
As I started this book (i dont tend to read the back of books) I expected it to follow on from the wishsong of shannara. But no the elves are gone there is no Paranor and the Dwarfs are slaves and the federation rules.

Intrigued in what has happened in a few hundred years I read on.

From the start this book shows us how this world has changed - for the worse. Its a much more sinister and evil places than it was a few hundred years ago.

The characters in this book are more complex and different and previous one that we have and this is similar for the story line. We see it starts to branchs out from typical linear style of many books and has a more 3D effect ie different event going on at the same time - something I realy like in book.

This effect along with a well maintained story telling will leave you wanting to keep on reading.

I read the whole of Shannara series within a very short period of time and loved all of them. This is definitley the book to start with. While chronologically it is not the first its plot follows that of the Sword of Shannara quite closely and in my opinion the Heritage of Shannara tells the story better.

If you are at all interested in fantasy fiction read this series now! It is the best example of it that I have yet found.
