Book Description

30 Jun 2009
Your ancestors are a huge part of who, what, where and why you are the way you are today. It is comforting to think of the ancestors as something quite far away, unreachable but still there in the background. The reality is it all starts with your parents, who are connected to their parents, who are connected to their parents and so on until it all gets a bit blurry. Do you know, really know your parents? Do you know you Grandparents? What happened to them, what challenged them, what made them who they are or were? What happened in the family? Where are your roots? Patterns, energy, events and burdens from the past are carried down and are repeated through generations leaving an emotional, physical and spiritual imprint on the individual as they follow the fates of those that have gone before. In The Science of Family, Nikki Mackay explores these patterns, their effects and how to work with them using techniques from the world of energy healing, tarot archetypes and family constellations.

Review

A fascinating and accessible introduction to ancestral family patterns. Nikki flawlessly weaves scientific thought, complementary therapies and her own healing experiences into this highly practical and understandable book. I really wanted to know more! --Donald McKinney, Author of Walking the Mist, Celtic Angels and Why We Howl At the Moon.

A thoroughly interesting book that gives the reader information on how their life is energetically linked with their family and those who came before them, and also shows how they can resolve some of their current challenges through working with ancestral patterns. --Dr David Hamilton, www.drdavidhamilton.com

5.0 out of 5 stars Making sense of it all 14 Nov 2009
We hear, see and read so much these days about Family Trees and the impact they can have on our lives, but little has been written about the energetic side of it. Until this book, that is. I am interested anyway in the more esoteric side of life, and The Science of Family made perfect sense to me, in an accessible and easy to read style. Nikki MacKay was a clinical physicist for the NHS and so her take on family and ancestral patterns and how they can affect the lives we live today comes with scientific weight behind it. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I use it as a practical tool in helping shift stuff from years gone by. It's made me look at things differently, and be aware of my own propensity towards addictions in a quite fresh and liberating manner. I thoroughly recommend it for anyone who is interested in acknowledging the past and honouring those who have made up much of who we are today.

4.0 out of 5 stars the improtance of family 14 Aug 2009
this is the first book I have reviewed but I felt I had to write something in praise of this wonderful book. As an introduction to the idea of the impact of ancestors and family on our present relationships and ability to enjoy life, it is not to be missed. I would like to know more about the use of tarot to explore family issues and release past trauma and hurt. As someone who has never felt i belong anywhere, and am sometimes overwhelmed by unexplained sadness and sense of loss this book was really helpful in offering an insight into how important ancestoral links and connections are in reaching a sense of balance and harmony. I highly recommend it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great title shame about the text 14 Sep 2009
By MLW
I ordered this book with great excitement, the content and viewer page was interesting. Unfortunately rest of the book did not live up to the first pages. Very interesting subject, but unfortunately it seems the proof reader was not available the day the book went to press! The text was full of mistakes with lots of grammatical and spelling errors, which actually made the book difficult to read, in fact I ended up skipping a lot of the book and reading just the essentials, which in the end didn't amount to much at all due to either being speed written in the first place or no serious editing or proof reading.
All in all I feel I could have spent the money elsewhere on another book, which is a shame as the subject is something that people ought to be aware of, unfortunately this will not be a book I will recommend.
