For more than ten years, the Science for Conservators series has been the key basic texts for conservators throughout the world. Scientific concepts are basic ot the conservation of artefacts of every type, yet many conservators have little or no scientific training. These introductory volumes provide non-scientists with the essential theoretical background to their work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good introduction to Chemistry 5 Nov 2013
By Pebbles
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I'm a graduate who decided to retrain as a conservator. All of my experience is within design, so I have never really done any science since school. I did study Chemistry at A Level and did so badly in my exams that my grade was Unclassified. So I'm sure you will appreciate, science is not my speciality.

This book however, is fantastic. Science is explained in terms of how it applies to conservation practice, rather than just the theory. I think this makes it much easier to understand. I've read all three of these books now and I have found them to be really useful. My understanding of Science (Chemistry in particular) has greatly improved which has supported me a lot within my studies.

I really can't recommend this book enough to other conservation students.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reference Guide for Art Conservation. 29 Nov 2010
By Jan - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
The 3 books in this Series should be read together to coincide with art conservation. This is written for a Conservator who is trained in this field as it is quite technical. However, it could be utilized as a guide for understanding the genre of art conservation; as its authors, represent Museums abroad. .

It is an excellent, and outstanding Reference Guide (as are all 3), in the Series.
